### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

### End of shameless copy and paste ###

Question of the week:

• Terrain Terror Fest – how far into it are you?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: hard to do, pre-christmas is stuffed with things I need to attend even though I’m barely involved so spare time is very rare at the moment.

My Answer: Not very far. As shown in my project and then I hit a wall. Somehow need to relight my fire. Really annoys me that it’s 1/3rd the way and just sits there. Taunting me.

Pledge: continue with my Battletech, trying out my new AK paint pens!

Question: homey didn’t play the terrain game.

Pledge: Do a half decent job painting the minis I bought for my gaming group. I don’t normally buy gifts that require assembly, or painting, but I couldn’t not buy these. Can’t share details as it’s possible the recipients will spot them here.

Gave up on terrain fest this year. Too much going on in the real world that requires my attention.

One of my sisters told me to buy myself something… so I bought this…

Dad's Army Home Guard Platoon

I’m going to use them in an Achtung Cthulhu campaign next year called “Who do you think you are kidding Mr Cthulhu…”

That reminds me that I kind of want the Kelly’s Heroes from Warlord too at some point in time.
Maybe next year ?

Pledge ?
Continue to open both Mantic advent calendars one day at a time 😀

Seeing the quality of certain folk participating that’s kind of depressingly good I feel like I’d be in over my head to try and compete. I know it’s not about winning, but I feel outgunned.

I’ve got a few ideas and got parts to start both of them too, but not sure if I can get myself focused enough to finish either of them at the moment.

As such I can only promise to do more hobby next year (more than almost zero if I ignore my war room project is easy 😉 ).
Which reminds me that I got things to do for that as well. At this rate I might use it for next years’ spring cleaning challenge 😀
That’s not to say that I haven’t had any progress. It’s more that I need to finish other things within my house before I can afford to spend more time tinkering with that one room.

On a related note : it is annoying how much time there is between ordering stuff and getting it delivered.
I can understand why that blue&yellow store has soo many customers, because walking into that building and walking out of it with the furniture in hand is something that just doesn’t happen in ‘regular’ shops.

Adam Savage is always interesting to watch:

The video related to his build is equally amazing :

Birds/animals are smarter than we often realize.

El Pledge: Get some work done on my centaurs. So far the magnetizing of them and the maeneds goes well.

El Questionero: I’ve been too bust to get into Terrainfest. The idea is great to have involvement for the community over a long term project but realistically I just need to stop being the happy puppy running around getting excited about whatever and focus on a single thing to take down. The Harryhausen Hellenics (the name has grown on me with the army) are my bag at the moment and I’ll be done with painting in just over a year as opposed to the many more for the Arabian Knights. A heads up, yes, “New Year, New Army”. I’ve already got it covered.

Now, Let some wrongness commence

This week’s pledge is to continue working on my Ultramarines. I’m about half way through, but I need to do all the details now and my brush needs replacing.

• Terrain Terror Fest – how far into it are you? I’m all done. I deliberately chose a nice contained project that wouldn’t take too long.

Moanday morning.

Was at the Christmas market yesterday. Way to crowded. And too loud (wrong music) and the smells are bad to. (I hate Glühwein)

Did you know there was a Space Marine that *actually* went to space? Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!

That was a mere weather balloon … (it’s still spectacular to see man made objects get that high)

Meanwhile LEGO went with actual astronauts in space :

Life on Mars alien that flew to space!
byu/BLBrick inlego

And Google tells me that there’s a set of LEGO minis aboard the Juno probe sent to Jupiter

That’s definitely space … but technically not actual LEGO as they were specially designed and cast.

It’s Day 9 of advent … time to see if any spectacular things are hiding behind door #9 …

Still it’s the first “Space” Marine.

And judging by Nat1s comment on his discord that could have been his last video.

Hello @everyone Lord have mercy… I have been gone for way too long.! … Hey guys, first thing I can say is that I am so over the moon to see that this server isn’t dead. People are still posting and participating, which is just incredible to me. Awesome work happening from every one! Just wanted to pop in and say hello. It has been ages since I have been moving in the internet spaces… but finally I have a new project ready to show you guys. And it is not just the average Nat 1 Videos build video, its something I have never done before, ts a bit out of this world and … well if I am being honest. I could use your guys support. If you are here in this server, then I imagine that you have enjoyed my content at some point along the way. I mean how else do you end up in a Nat 1 Videos discord server ??? lol … And for that I am eternally grateful!! So hre is the thing. I haven’t released a video in ages… like aggggggggeeeeeeesssss !! And it hurts my soul! But, I have been trying. And this Sunday, I WILL release a video. And it is the video that I have spent more time, effort, passion and money on than ever before. Thats all I am going to say. So if you can, please tune in to Nat 1 Videos on Youtube this Suanday at 4 pm UK time. I dunno… ,maybe this is my last one, but if it is, I would like to go out with a bang!! Love you all!! Kepp steady crafting ! much love, Michael

Since his channel is at that “weird” number of 22.400 subscribers I’m guessing it’s a case of “to little to live of of and to many to let down”. YouTube as a career is hell. I wouldn’t want to do that. Let’s see what comes next.

Aren’t astronauts in the Navy ? so technically a ‘marine’ could have been in space already. Making him (or her) the original space marine 😀

I’ve got a load of youtube channels that have gone dark or stopped updating without making a fuss.
As such I’d say it is the fate of anyone realizing what a grind a career as a ‘content creator’ really is.

Heck … there’s a reason tv-shows rarely last ‘forever’. At some point you’ve done all of the things and there isn’t anything ‘new’ left. You see this in magazines as well where they start to recycle the same ol’ subjects every few seasons.

All things have a life span and we shouldn’t be afraid of that. Reboots can work, but even those may end in scraping the bottom of the barrel. At which point the thing should be put out of its misery instead of revived.

/rant

(sjeesz … that was a bit dark, wasn’t it ?)

Speaking of ending things : Legion … Fire sale .. when ? 😉

day 11 of advent is upon us mortals.
Time to see if anything exciting is behind those little doors.

Ok I did absolutely nothing related to my pledge. I got sidetracked with a dice tower I’ll be gifting to a friend and putting the finishing touches on stuff for my nephews (details later). In that time I also found something worthy of Crispin the Salacious (aka @lludan)

@horati0nosebl0wer Dice Tower? CLOSE THE DOOR!

Also: someone really went to town with AI sh*t.

#1907004

Close the door? You’ll get the roof and that’s it.
