Well, I soon realized I would be unable to do this without spending any money, as I didn’t have any PVA glue to secure the foam to the wood, and my superglue was not recommended to be used with foam. I also spent some money on Plaster of Paris bandages, which I have used to cover the foam, and this should protect the surface long-term… I hope so at least.

Total spend for the project is £10!

Firstly, I glued the styrofoam to the wood with quick-setting PVA glue and left it overnight, which worked a treat and has firmly glued them together. I woke up in the morning, measured and cut the bandages before dipping them in cold water as per instructions. My wife was laughing at the mess I made in the kitchen. I would have to clean it up before she could make breakfast!

I have left it to dry in my home office and should be able to start painting it in a couple of hours, but the instructions say 24 hours is best for water-based paints. So I think I will leave it for the full time.
