They Have A Snow Troll! New Middle-earth SBG Miniature Reveals
November 13, 2024 by brennon
Another Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game reveal popped up from the folks at Games Workshop this week. The War Of The Rohirrim set is coming soon and whilst conflict plays out between warring factions within the Rohirrim and evil allies, Orcs and such also play a role!
The Snow Troll // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
Leading the way, we have The Snow Troll, a towering new monstrous miniature that will be stalking the White Mountains looking for any who stray into its domain. This is one of the miniatures that a lot of folks have been eager to see based on the previews for War Of The Rohirrim and it's good to see that it has finally popped up.
Both The Snow Troll and the two Orcs below, Shank and Wrot, come in Forge World Resin and will be part of a single set that will contain all three of the miniatures.
Shank And Wrot // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
Shank And Wrot are two Orcs from the White Mountains, able to call on the strength of The Snow Troll to get them what they want. Once The Snow Troll kills their foes, these two scavenge from the bodies and seek to find anything that could elevate their standing in the eyes of their Dark Lord in Mordor.
These miniatures will form part of their own Warband in a Besieger Of The Hornburg force. Shank fills the role of a Captain and Wrot is an Independant Hero. The Snow Troll is a monster that can be slotted in alongside them. They will feature unique and characterful rules that match the way they appear in the upcoming movie.
I hope that this also opens the door for us to get some new plastic Orcs. Maybe we could see Games Workshop rework a plastic set to match the White Mountains theme here which could then end up being folded into other armies in Middle-earth.
What do you make of these new miniatures?

Santa? Is that you?
I’m not sitting on that Mother Hubbard’s knee.
Santa from “Rare Exports.”
I am all for expanded your product line based upon an existing and beloved IP – and I think it’s quite easy to take the extended history that Tolkien alluded to and use that, but honestly what is that Troll? Maybe there is a reference to a “Snow Troll” in a footnote, or a book, but that looks like dogsh!t.
As far as I understand these guys show up in the upcoming movie The War of the Rohirim. That is way those miniatures exist.
Oh I have no issue with that, (although I have saw the trailer and its not for me), I just think the miniature itself is terrible!
Cool!
I like the orcs a lot. If they were sold seperaely, I’d probably get them – but that troll just is not something Tolkien would have come up with! It is OK for D&D, but not Middle Earth.
So GW drops a good chunk of their LotR and adds this? Alright. Let’s see how this all goes.
So glad we lost Erkenbrand and Khand for this garbage
