Community Spotlight: Going NUTS!, Napoleonic Revenants & Warcrow Terrain
October 30, 2024 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
NUTS! by bobcockayne
We dive into some World War II for the first of the entries this week as part of the Community Spotlight. This time around, bobcockayne has been sucked back into the world of World War II and the clashes in the Ardennes between the Allies and the Axis. This might have been nudged on by the release of the Battle Of The Bulge set for Bolt Action.
bobcockayne has done a splendid job on these miniatures. I think the use of the Contrast/Speed paints has worked really well to make the jackets of the US soldiers pop. The idea was to paint with what bobcockayne had available and whilst you might be wondering on the colour of these coats, green wouldn't have been uncommon amongst the ranks of the US soldiers fighting during the winter. The final look is spot on, especially with the snowy basing.
I was really impressed by the look of the Winter Germans who are going to be slogging through the snow in their white uniforms.
Once again, the painting on these is great and it's ace considering that that bobcockayne did what he could with the paints and other components available to him. I like the hint of blue that you get amongst the white and that is set off by the caps as well. I also like that bobcockayne still took the time to do the bloody eyes where possible!
A solid set of miniatures that look great when they are all assembled and on the tabletop. I recently did something similar when painting my own World War II miniatures for Bolt Action and V For Victory and I can say that it was very satisfying seeing how many miniatures you could paint.
The Silver Bayonet by draconis
Next up, we have a look at some of the foes that draconis has been working on for their The Silver Bayonet collection. Some recent additions include these shambling revenants, undead souls who have come back to hunt down your units as they fight across Europe.
There's some great kitbashing and customisation involved here as well as a great degree of painting. I think these look fantastic considering they are going to be fodder. That's one of the benefits of playing a skirmish game where you can spend a bit more time painting up smaller sets of miniatures.
As well as the Revenants, there are also these Forest Walkers that were printed and now shamble through the woods looking for those who dare enter their domain!
I liked the quick and easy wood texture that came out with these miniatures and how the green helps to draw the eye to particular elements of the sculpt. The very lush forest floor helps to then sell the overall look and they work very well alongside the rest of the collection by draconis.
I also have a soft spot for Wolves and draconis has done a lot of them! They are looking like a good fit for all those Werewolves in that project.
Again, some great miniatures are painted up in a nice way to make them simple but effective. There is WAY more in the project from draconis including Sharpe and his very own Chosen Men. So, make sure to dive in and check out the rest of the project linked above.
Warcrow Terrain by nolimon
Last but not least we have nolimon who has been painting up some terrain for TerrainFest. They started with an Orc Village for Warcrow to celebrate the new boxed set for the wargame and it turned out really well.
The terrain looks great from the big hills through to the awesome tent. It looks like somewhere the Northern Tribes are hiding out, waiting to strike at the Hegemony as they march through their lands. It turns out that it didn't end up being a good table for Warcrow though!
So, this set was added from TTCombat.
This is where nolimon has been focusing their energy, working on getting this all painted up and ready for use in Warcrow. Rather than being an Infinity table in terms of terrain and density, this new table worked out way better for use in Warcrow.
I think it looks great and the choice of colours on the terrain is the real selling point. The green roof sections give the Fantasy vibe and I like that there are plenty of subtle colour variations in the stone and the wood which bring the terrain to life nicely. The set up is now great and perfect for Warcrow. However! nolimon is not happy that the buildings don't have any floors and so that is their next port of call. Watch this space for more from this project I guess!
