An aside for random contemplation and the development of a figure in future (maybe). I’ve started to do more research about Wallachia, Vlad Tepes, and a few other ruminating touch points. I’m not really happy to say that falling down rabbit holes is a tendency I’m becoming more adept at than might be beneficial for me.

I have decided that the crowning horrific element to this army will be a reliquary. A litter borne reliquary made of bones like the architecture in the crypt of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini (Rome), Capela de Ossos (Évora), ossarium of Sedlec (Kutna Hora) or San Bernadino alle Ossa (Milan). It comes from seeing a 3D sculpted Hebrew army done by Red Copper Miniatures with the Ark of the Covenant. After that I saw other GW adjacent figures of robed penitents that dragged a mobile siege lectern. From there I added in the concept of Byzantine art and drew from a paper on the history of royal support for iconography and collecting relics. It all got mashed together to feel like it just might fit with the “evil dead” army which also had parts that were quite alive.
