I’m writing this as I start watching but here’s my tournament view. I play mostly wargames with a small group that very few people play or aren’t really suitable for tournaments. Baroque, Altar of Freedom, Sharp Practice, Chain of Command, Impetvs, ect. But I also have armies for the more popular games and know roughly how to play them just so that I can attend local events and play games with new people. Tournaments have pros and cons. The Pros are that you get some fantastic concentrated hobby porn to look at. It can be amasingly inspirational and you can talk hobby with like minded nerds for days on end. It’s great for ideas and the visual of a big group of people playing ‘your game’ makes you feel like part of a bigger community. As you prepare for the tournament it can help motivate you to build and paint your toy soldiers, and for newer players, you can learn tricks and tactics that you were previously unaware of.
