Games Workshop will be taking pre-orders for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team this weekend. Hive Storm will see the new Vespid Stingwings taking to the skies once more alongside the forces of the Tempestus Aquilons, battling over Volkus which plays host to a massive, massive gun.

The set comes with two Kill Teams representing the squads mentioned above. You can go with the Xenos forces of the Vespid Stingwings, revamped and updated in plastic. They keep their advanced neutron guns but also a few new special weapons thanks to their T'au overlords.

The T'au still keep a close eye on the Vespid when they are on operation. A drone watches their antics and it seems like their leader might be somewhat mind-controlled by the T'au. All in the name of The Greater Good of course.

On the other side of this skirmish, you have the Tempestus Aquilons, the elite drop troopers of the Tempestus Scions.

They are streamlined and ready for insertion, armed to the teeth with their classic hot-shot lasguns, explosives and more. You also get a sentry gun that can watch over them as they fight, keeping an eye on objectives.

The new battlefield that you'll be playing your games on features a trashed urban landscape resplendent with destroyed buildings. If you're a fan of the classic Gothic Ruins from years gone by, this might be the set for you.

Kill Team Hivestorm Terrain - Warhammer 40000 SEP

All of these bits and bobs come as part of the brand-new edition of Kill Team. The game has been revamped and tweaked so that it's more approachable for newcomers whilst retaining the tactical depth that Kill Team fans have become accustomed to. It's still a more involved skirmish game than your typical games of Warhammer 40,000 where every movement and action that you take benefits from being plotted.

Kill Team Hivestorm Books - Warhammer 40000 SEP

What's quite nice is that the new edition of Kill Team comes with rules for solo play and cooperative play. This means that you can get your head around the rules by yourself before dragging someone else in. When they do get to the table, instead of beating their Kill Team up, you can work together against a common foe. It's a great step in the right direction for Kill Team and I hope this comes to the likes of Warcry too.

Additional books and accessory packs are also available separately so if you already have a bunch of Kill Teams and terrain, you can just get the bits you need.

Revamped Kill Team Sets

As well as the new edition boxed set, you can also get your hands on revamped Kill Team sets for previous releases.

These Kill Teams are going to be available for you to scoop up and there will also be separate Datacard sets allowing you to update your Kill Team for the new edition. That means that if you already have the miniatures, just get your hands on the cards.

All of these miniatures also have rules for use in Warhammer 40,000 so if you're looking to use them for your armies, you've got the option.

Could you be tempted to dive into the new edition of Kill Team? Streamlining the game experience has made this game a little more enticing to me. I could be very tempted to dive in when the Aeldari get another Kill Team. I am crossing my fingers for Swooping Hawks. I think I could see myself enjoying the cooperative mode a lot as well.
