New Response Teams & Valiant Defenders From Spectre Miniatures
August 19, 2024 by brennon
Spectre Miniatures has added a couple of new sets of 28mm scale infantry to their webstore for use in Spectre Operations alongside a couple of vehicles too. We start with some soldiers who are damn good in a crisis.
Agents - Crisis Response Element // Spectre Miniatures
These Agents could represent a selection of different members of Law Enforcement, SOF or other Government Agencies that have been called in to deal with a particular problem. They come in their civilian clothing because they were either staking out a target incognito or ended up getting thrown into the fighting whilst they weren't in uniform. It means that you can use these soldiers to represent fighters in a wide variety of settings.
Two of these soldiers come armed with M4 variants whilst others carry MP7s and MP5s. You also have a Negev 7 Ultra Light Machine Gun and a suppressed SCAR-H. If you're into the cutting edge of warfare on the tabletop then these fellows are a solid choice. I can already sense the scenarios forming for this team.
Rugged Defenders
From quick response teams to valiant defenders, you can also get your hands on the Ukrainian Motor Element.

This unit shows off the fact that whilst there is a lot of technology being sent to Ukraine, a lot of units are still making do with Soviet-era weapons. If you were going to be using these troops in your games, they would normally be heading into battle transported by the classic BMP.
These folks are wearing kits that you'd expect including extra ballistic plates, wet weather gear and as Spectre pointed out, the butt pad which gives you some comfort when you're sitting down. You get rifles, grenade launchers, assault LMGs, RPGs and a Marksman Rifle in the set.
Whilst I imagine this conflict might be a little close to home for a lot of folks, there is something to be gained from exploring conflicts, however old or new, on the tabletop, especially if it has you diving into more research on the conflict and what's happening in reality.
New Vehicles
As well as the two new Elements, you can also get yourself some new vehicles for use in specific scenarios or simply as terrain and set dressing. The first is the THeMIS UGV.

Many nations across the world use these and they are handy for those wanting to support troops with unmanned firepower. They can be given a selection of different weapons to deal with a multitude of tasks. They can be armed with autocannons, grenade launchers and more including other anti-tank weapons. I would imagine that more and more armies are going to end up using kit like this, especially in very, very hot war zones.
The Type X UGV is also rumbling into view.

This is another completely unmanned infantry support vehicle. The driver and gunner use VR headset to control the Type X from afar. The technology has also come on since its initial development to including AI target identification for autonomous operations. I'm fairly sure that the guiding hand of a human is probably preferable.
Much like with the smaller vehicle we looked at above, this can be designed to deal with a myriad of threats. It can feature an autocannon, heavy machine gun and various launcher configurations. It can also be transported via C-130 and parachute-dropped thanks to heavy lift helicopters so it can be delivered right into the heart of the fighting.
The world of warfare really is changing from the days of the regular soldier with a rifle. Once again, both of these vehicles seem perfect for set scenario play. Maybe someone is trying to steal the Type X UGV or it has gone haywire and your team need to head in and take it down.
What do you make of the new releases from Spectre Miniatures?

The Ukrainians look superb!
All of these look great except the agent in the red shirt. Weird pose. Different vibe from the rest.
She definitely has that “I really wish I wasn’t doing this right now” look.
