Check out the Sefadu for MERCS
May 30, 2011 by beerogre
So MERCS have a another faction for their game, this time it's the Sefadu.
Lets' see what they have to say about them...
As each new Megacon comes out, we try to hone in on and capture some unique features. Sefadu is no different in this. In terms of game they are fast and nasty. I found them to be very challenging to design. In terms of visuals I wanted to try to create a link to how Sefadu plays (namely their speed and low armor value), capture a very distinct African flavor, and still try to make them look like they could hold their own in near futuristic combat. I believe someone on TGN described it as a "techno tribal look". This is definitely what I was going for with this Megacon. Sleek stylized armor armor combined with essential gear, and low armor on their legs so they could move lightning fast on the field.
These look really cool... but then so does all the MERCS stuff!

looking sweet…i do like the MERCS fluff…Bow need to do a vid re this game. Not sure how i feel re the unit card thingie, may be awesome for all i know
Nice minis on the site! Not sure about the price tag though.
not super cheap i agree but they do seem to have a battle deal going at the site…get two 6 man squads with unit/faction cards. They also have a get all 4 factions deal by the looks of it
I assume you dont need a huge amount of figures so as a total game its not mega expensive but again another slightly costly per fig game
Only 5 figures per force needed to start.
Price tag compared to everything else is a very good price. 35 dollars for a full color hardback rulebook is very good.
The artwork looks heavily borrowed from Tau.
you may be right but isnt it more likely that they both stole african stylistic patterns…the shoulder pads do indeed have tau vibe
I thought they looked more like lizards… but now that @trebormills mentions the African theme… I can see that too.
When I saw them I certainly didn’t think they looked like Tau.
I did think they looked like Tau… I see that they saw the same anime/tribal iconography that GW stol… sorry, was inspired by.

they look amazing ! i want them so bad and i can see the african theme with them to when are they going to be realsed i am gona get them day 1 . !!!!!
I really love every piece of MERCS artwork they’ve released but for some reason a lot of the models just aren’t quite to my tastes.
Here’s hoping the Sefadu break that trend!
Beautiful artwork there.
one of the local guys loves the look of these, gives me an excuse to pick up some now 😉
There are some Mercs minis i like (knowing nothing about the system oder Background at all), but… … there is Infinity. I think both systems are directly competing because of their very similar appeal. And there, Infinity is the stronger system imho. Many Mercs minis are boring and by far not as captivating as Infinity minis, tough some of the best come very close and even might match Infintiys finest. The artwork I dont like at all. It looks awkward and delivers a rather poor image of depth, perspective and dynamic. Nonetheless i hope the System will do good and… Read more »
I like the look of these actually. May do some digging around to discover more info. A BoW video on the system would be great.
I’ve never really gone in for the Inifinity art style or miniatures myself, so I suppose everyone has their tastes! 😛
As someone who has played both Infinity and Mercs I can honestly say both games have their strengths. Infinity is a far more detailed rule set that can become cumbersome to a starting player. I think quick start rules help a lot, but its still hard to plow through the full rulebook when you want to expand your games. I still love it, and I think AROs are a great way to keep both players engaged at all times of the time. Mercs is more simple, yet still very strategic. One must remember though that Mercs is a game thats… Read more »
