Viking Raiders by TinyHeadbones

We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at some awesome Dark Age miniatures from Sally 4th that have been painted up ready to go raiding.

TinyHeadbones has been doing their best to bring these miniatures to life quickly for use on the tabletop. To that end, the various characters have been painted up using various speed paints and over the course of a week (ten days), five Viking Raiders were finished off and they look fantastic.

TinyHeadbones has done a great job of picking out all of the details and making the various miniatures pop. I like that they have gone for plenty of brighter colours alongside the classic dark browns and greens that you see on Dark Age miniatures. It really draws the eye to particular details and adds to the character of these various Viking warriors. If you were playing a game like Blood Eagle then this would be great for focusing in on individual warriors at the tabletop.

Some unfortunate Monks have also been added into the mix. I don't imagine they are going to last long once the Vikings land.

Again, some great, quick painting on these miniatures bring them to life quickly. I also appreciate the photography by TinyHeadbones which makes great use of the terrain and the backdrops to help set the scene. It's always good to see miniatures in their "natural habitat" so you can get an idea of how they'd look on the tabletop! It makes all the difference compared to seeing them in stark, white light.

Burma British by piers

Next up, we're sticking with Historical miniatures but we're moving ahead to 1944 and 1945 with piers who is working on some Burma British for use in Battlegroup. The miniatures have come from AB Figures and are 20mm in scale.

The idea is to try and get an entire army painted for use in Burma over the course of the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge and I think that piers has managed to nail it! piers is also using this as an opportunity to try out a speed painting technique for the army rather than the standard workflow that he normally goes for. I do like it when people experiment.

As you can see, the process has been something of a success and it is great to see the development of the army from its clean-up stage all the way through to completion on the Project. The idea of the project is to focus in on the action at Shangshak and so the aim is to mix in some of the Indian volunteers alongside the typical British soldiers that you would have seen fighting it out.

piers is doing a grand job and at this stage, it all looks to be coming together rather nicely. Block colour painting and a good use of dip has made the process much quicker for this army and I think the basing really helps to tie it all together as well. As long as you're neat and tidy with your paint jobs and use the right tools to help "cheat" you can end up with some great results. It will be neat to see what else is in store for piers Burma force.

Trench Crusade by jesusjohn

Last but not least, we have something VERY different and from the wild mind of jesusjohn. You might remember the strange demonic force that they created for Warhammer 40,000. Well, Trench Crusade is the next game that has got them going wild with the kitbashing to create a terrifying force for use in the game.

These miniatures have been formed out of a mix of different elements. There is a bit of 3D printing in there, some plastic miniatures from the likes of Perry Miniatures and the North Star range. All of them have then been weathered, warped and more using a range of different materials as well as the likes of tissue paper for some of the stranger creations. There is also plenty of greenstuff to boot!

This has created a genuinely unsettling force that matches with the artwork for Trench Crusade and the grimdark theme of the game. It is most certainly unique and it looks very brooding and dark when all of the miniatures have been assembled. What's neat is that the big creature you see with them was made using a wire armature and then built up using the aforementioned tissue paper, greenstuff and more. It has a distinct Ian Miller vibe!

A proper crafting project as well as a kitbashing one I think you'll agree. I can't wait to see what else springs from the mind of jesusjohn who always comes up with something unique!
