In some big news for this week, Steamforged Games announced that they have acquired Iron Kingdoms, Warmachine and more from Privateer Press and will serve as custodians of their various games, miniature ranges and more in the future.
Warmachine // Steamforged Games & Privateer Press
It was announced yesterday that Steamforged Games will carry forward the Iron Kingdoms and Warmachine library. This also includes Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika, Riot Quest, Bodgers and all of the other board and card games associated with the world of Immoren. Steamforged Games will also lead the Formula P3 hobby range.
Privateer Press shared their statement HERE but here is a snippet...
"It is with great excitement that we are announcing that Steamforged Games has acquired the Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine library of properties, including Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika, Riot Quest, Bodgers, and all associated board game, card game and fiction titles, as well as the Formula P3 hobby products line. Going forward, Privateer will continue to partner with Steamforged Games to develop Warmachine, the Iron Kingdoms RPG, and future products based on the vast intellectual property library that has sprung from the Iron Kingdoms. Privateer will also continue to manufacture Warmachine models while working with Steamforged Games to expand the materials the products are offered in as well as increasing availability in markets where Warmachine is not widely accessible."
One of the major factors that Privateer Press stated for the change is that Steamforged Games has the resources and infrastructure to carry Warmachine forward into a new phase. Privateer Press did say that they will still be working with Steamforged Games on Warmachine and related products so they will still be part of the process.
Steamforged Games also shared a statement on the acquisition HERE...
"From Rich Loxam, our CEO and Founder: “This is a perfect, logical fit for us. Almost every aspect of Steamforged’s history can be traced back to Warmachine in some way or another. Both Mat Hart and I are Warmachine players, and Warmachine was actually a key inspiration for us creating Guild Ball, with its incredible world and well-designed gameplay. We couldn't be more excited to bring our experience and infrastructure to the table to take Warmachine into its next era.”
The ranges for both the Iron Kingdoms RPG and Warmachine will be the first to transition over to the Steamforged Games website. Ranges like the Formula P3 Paints, Warcaster, Riot Quest and more will be discussed in more detail later this week.

As a backer of the disastrous Monsterpocalypse kickstarter, I am mostly curious if this has any effevt on that.
As that title is suspicipisly absent….
Monsterpocalypse and Level 7 will be talked about in the next few days apparently.
We’ve acquired all Iron Kingdoms titles from Privateer Press. This doesn’t include any non-Iron Kingdoms titles like MonPoc or Level 7.
Aye – should have clarified Privateer Press will say more about Monsterpocalypse & Level 7 later (according to some comments on social media)
The MonPoc kickstarter is kind of out of PP’s hands. Their end of it was as done as it was getting, it’s Mythic Games that need to fix the horrible position they find themselves in.
Well, that sucks as it was one of the big games I was looking forward to…
Hope steamforge gets warmahordes up and running again. Haven’t played a lot, but I have a decent ammount of models as I do really love the world.
Well, if you want this to give you some unwarranted hope: This sale puts money into PP’s hands. With other Mythic titles, it is clear that they got some help from their licensing partner to fulfill their Kickstarters. Previously, there wasn’t much hope that PP could be able to bail out Mythic even though the project’s success or failure has a lot of bearing on PP’s game. It is possible that PP now have the funds to help them finish Monpoc (which has previously been kind of at the bottom of the pile that Mythic buried themselves under). Will this… Read more »
Whoa! This was completely unexpected! Warmachine was the first wargame I actually *played*, rather than just collect the minis. I’m a Dwarf guy, and the Rhulics are my absolute favorite non-Tolkien-esque Dwarves ever. How do you get away with clean-shaven Dwarves?! Well, PP did it, and they’re awesome (looks-wise, lore-wise…not so much rules-wise! ??).
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes; I love the Iron Kingdoms, and Steamforged kicks out some good stuff, so it’s in capable hands.
Also, uh…any inside scoop on new Rhulics units (and their Ogrun buddies)? ?
Hmmm. Given the cluster-f that the cessation of Guildball was, and the way Godtear is being run now (invisible unless you are a 3d printer) and Steamforge’s general lack of visibility in stores and such, I’m not hugely optimistic, and in fact colour me surprised that Steamforged actually had the resources to take Iron Kingdom properties on. Didn’t surprise me that PP ran out of money though – going 3d-printed but with a physical model only distribution network seemed like a high risk, and ultimately its resulting in high prices at point of sale made Mk IV a non-runner from… Read more »
I know steamforged has a lot of staff who love the game so that’s a positive
However, a lot of potential customers (myself inc) and local stores have reasons to want nothing to do with steamforged.
So mixed feelings, would like to see the game do well and p3 paints are fantastic but history suggests this won’t end well
Sad to see Privateer Press sellout, (their best line), and collaborate with another company. It didn’t seem to workout very well for Hawk Games. IMHO Although I did think the attempt at mk4 was a last dieing gasp. So they dodged when the reaper came for them and are still in the game, so to speak. I guess all my mk1, mk2 and mk3 PP/Iron Kingdom stuff are now considered VINTAGE! GOOD memories and fun times with Warmachine & Hordes. Maybe I’ll start planning a table build based on one of the builds in the old ‘NO Quarter’ magazine. I… Read more »
