Warlord Join the Hunt With Their Jagdtiger Tank
February 20, 2015 by dracs
Warlord Games have shown off another WiP of an upcoming resin tank. This time we get to see the heaviest armoured fighting vehicle of WWII, the Jagdtiger tank!
The Jagdtiger (Hunting Tiger) was a heavy tank destroyer that was easily able to out-range any of the Allied tanks fielded during the war. Only a very few were produced and the tank was constantly plagued by mechanical issues due to its extreme weight.
Despite its unreliability, the Jagdtiger is still a formidable armoured vehicle, something which even this scale model manages to convey. The appearance of such a monster is sure to leave any Allied tank commander shaking in his tracks in a Tank War game.
Can you tell us how this brute will play in Bolt Action?
"The Jagdtiger was easily able to out-range any of the Allied tanks fielded during the war."
Almost a crazy tank to field for 28mm, mind you most tanks probably are. Can’t wait to see the finished product though! 😀
Can’t agree more, on both points. (a) 28mm is a little big to actually use for WW2 tanks on tables smaller than a your back yard, and this one even more so. But . . . (b) just LOOK at it! I have a Jagdtiger in 15mm and even at that scale, it’s awesome. Imagine what this thing will look like in 28mm! Logic be damned, it’s gonna be epic! In actual combat, though, the Jagdtiger has a whole slew of problems. @dorthonion lists many of these below. It’s impossible to hide, vulnerable to fighter-bombers, can’t cross most bridges in… Read more »
Refreshing to look at something ‘real’ after laughing at that Forgeworld storm thing on another thread. This is probably more practical, though lol.
I have a soft spot in my heart for all the SP guns the Germans fielded. This one certainly isn’t my favourite, but it is intimidating nonetheless. If I’m not mistaken, the jagdpanther was a much better piece of kit, sexier, with the same capabilities as the Panther (and obviously many of the same flaws), and a lower silhouette.
And of course, the jagdtiger wasn’t quite as silly as the Maus.
The Maus silly? Go wash your mouth young man >< I still want that Blitkrieg Maus at some point in the future… some day… my precious…
This is looking great though!
Jagdpanther was indeed one of the best tank destroyers ever built, although it did suffer from a lot of the same drawbacks as other late war German designs. In GENERAL, though, the Panther line (once they fixed the infuriating problems with drive trains and fuel building up in the exhaust were corrected in the “D” version) was usually better in these mechanical and fuel-consumption aspects than the Tiger line. But they were still late-war German AFVs, so draw your own conclusions. 🙂
But isn’t someone doing WW 2.5 atm? 🙂
Yes, @hedleyb , but my Jagdtigers, Sturmtigers, and Jagdtigers couldn’t POSSIBLY be making an appearance in WW 2.5 . . . (ahem) . . . no. (cough, glance down and to the left) Never! I deny it completely. 😀
It was a youthful indiscretion! I didn’t inhale! Well, I didn’t inhale THAT much…
Hell Yeah!
Jagdtiger is another example of too little too late and flawed design. The cannon was formidable but of no use in the hands of inexperienced crews, and it required gentle handling to avoid damaging the aiming system and mount. Hitler was easily impressed by grandiose projects and this is another example. The tonnage of metal would have been far better invested in the Panther 2 from the German point of view.
I don’t imagine the Soviets or Allies would have been too keen on that outcome..
Armour like a fortress and a cannon that can sink a battleship but at over 500 points all on its own, its gonna attract every howitzer, air strike and heavy AT gun on the field, best kept for when you’re playing huge battles, since at less than 3 feet really the tiger II does the same thing for 5 points less, but with a turret.
That is already looking good.
You have to have a pair!
To crew one, or simply to drive it?
To hunt one through the streets of Rimling, France, with a bazooka (January 1945).
Santa sent me a 1:100 Jadgtiger for my driveway. It takes up a little less space than my 1:1 Saturn.
A 128 mm gun of fun – I love it despite the fact that it were the wrong tank (sp gun) at the wrong time
I will just put it in the middle of the village for your entertainment… all you have to do is outflank it 😉 meh just bragging with you. This model looks awesome.
a nice mobile? bunker.
I wouldn’t want to be near it, even if I was on the same side. As the saying goes, moving bunkers attract attention 🙂 .
Utterly pointless vehicle… The driver and maintenence training was useless. The Niebelungen Works were very anti-Henschel and very unfamiliar with the chassis and gave the drivers virtually no instruction on the Olvar drive so even a minor issue led to utter drive failure. Its a miracle any ever managed to get to a frontline. Just looking at 653rd Jagdtiger loss rate its apparent its not a wonder weapon… 16 lost to abandonment after mechanical failure or direct total mechanical failure. They then lost 4 to enemy action (one to a bazooka, one hit in tracks, one from an artillery hit… Read more »
Just because you NEED to see how immense these things are..and see that they weren’t exactly slow

and more nice footage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzMSffk5iGE
Damn, those things are actually going pretty fast (or at least faster than I would have thought) . . . at least in the short burst shown in the video,
Must be tricked out, like Oddball’s Sherman 🙂
You know how hard it is to put 16 switches in a Jagdtiger!!?
And for those who are fond of the Konigstiger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5p3KCli6YM
Another Warlord purchases… Just take my wallet!!!!
People when all is said and done lets face it, as tread heads how many of us are going to get this monster. It’s a Jagdtiger, A JAGDTIGER!!!! It might be slow as only just beyond going into reverse. It might need to have a fuel tanker following a fuel tanker following a fuel tanker, following it! It might need an army of fitters mending it every time it changes position. And lets face it those silly europeans never built bridges worth a damn at this time (if now?) (I get to say that because Victoria used to design and… Read more »
