Aelves Vs Spooks! New Warcry Set Lands + Old Warbands Return
April 1, 2024 by brennon
If you prefer your skirmishes in The Mortal Realms, Games Workshop is going to be taking pre-orders for a new Warcry set this weekend. Pyre And Flood sees the Lumineth Realm-lords taking on the ghastly Nighthaunt in the depths of Ghur.

In Pyre And Flood, the Nighthaunt are looking to set the Gnarlwood aflame and that's where the Pyregheists come in. Sent forth by Nagash, they are seeking to set Ghur on fire and send all of those burning souls into his embrace.

Another awesomely inventive set from the folks producing these kits. Whilst the Nighthaunt might not be everyone's cup of tea, I think Games Workshop has done a solid job doing a lot with what is essentially ghosts. As well as looking great, they should also be pretty darn fun to paint. They seem perfectly suited to a bit of Contrast paint.
Looking to put out the flames, there are the Riverblades of the Lumineth Realm-lords.
Riverblades // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry
Summoning forth the water from the various rivers of The Mortal Realms, they are guardians of the natural world like most of their kind. I'm not a massive fan of the look of the Riverblades I must admit. I think they all look a little bit "odd" and there is a bit of a mishmash between their armour and their lighter clothing. They look interesting in the artwork but I don't think it has translated well into their miniatures.
Pyre And Flood also comes with an Idol Of The Old Ones for use in your games alongside a Warband Tome which features all the new rules you'll need. There are also specific Battleplan cards and more for diving in with these warbands and having some skirmish fun.
Returning Warbands
As well as the new warbands for Warcry, you can also get your hands on some of the previous warbands separately. Both the Wildercorps Hunters and Gorger Mawpack are going to be available for you to once again pre-order this weekend.
Wildercorps Hunters // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry
Available as part of Hunter And Hunted, the Wildercorps Hunters are going to be ranging ahead of more Dawnbringer Crusades. Armed with brutal crossbows and with skills born out of desperate situations, these veterans are going to be a great warband to have by your side. You will find rules for using them in Warcry but also as a unit in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar.
The Gorger Mawpack are a great new addition to the Ogor range, replacing some classic miniatures with some seriously awesome updates.
Gorger Mawpack // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry
These howling Ogors have been driven into a frenzy from lack of food and that means they are going to be on the hunt for anything they can scoff. As with the Wildercorps Hunters, they have rules for use in Warcry but also in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. They could be great for a lot of themed Ogor armies where you want to reinforce the Gorgor aesthetic. Bring on the Butchers and more!
More Terrain For The Gnarlwood
As well as the returning warbands, you can also get your hands on some bits of terrain from previous sets. These can be good for enhancing your Warcry tables or designing a landscape for your games of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar in the realm of Ghur.
Ruined Realmshaper // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry
Ruined Spawning Pool // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry
This terrain is rather characterful and should be quite fun for those who want to try their hand at painting some different Fantasy terrain. I've seen a lot of folks doing great work on this terrain using the whole Slapchop/Zenith method and a judicious application of Contrast.
Are you going to be picking up some of these new Warcry releases?

A ruined spawning pool? Perhaps there might be more narrative to come with the Lizardmen?
It’s part of the “ship” that crashed in the Gnarlwood so fingers crossed they do a bit more with that in the future and delve deeper into the ruin to finish off this particular “season” of Warcry.
I really like the lizardman terrain but I am not getting ruined spawning pool vibes, just ruins. I’m kind of getting magic portal vibes from them though.
I like the Gorgers more as some kind of uber-ghoul.
