Sigvald. Prince of Slaanesh
This is a quite a large GW miniature closer to 54mm rather than to 32mm. I have been working on this piece for several months and took it to Hammerhead’s painting competition in March where it did not place. One of the judges told me that among other things the main cape was not highlighted enough. I had also been told this by Juan Hidalgo. So over the last few days I have spent several hours reworking not just that but aspects of the armour, face, hair, base and shield. Well basically all of it!
The recipe for the gold NMM combines aspects of Juan Hidalgo’s most recent suggestions and an old tutorial Darren Latham did. I have always wanted to have a go at replicating one of Darren’s shiny boys! Over a white undercoat I painted the ‘gold’ areas with Vallejo Game Colour Scrofulous Brown. Highlights were then worked up with mixes of this and Vallejo Model Colour Ice Yellow until I was using pure Ice Yellow. These are all applied as a glaze consistency. A filter of thinned GW Iyanden Yellow Contrast was then applied. For the shading I used GW Doombull Brown and for the darkest areas GW Rhinox Hide. A filter of GW Blood Angels Red was then used over the browns. Final edge highlights were done with Vallejo Model Colour Off- white and extreme highlights with white paint and ink.
Fantastic painted piece. I never even tried to master NMM. I might have to try now. Very impressed.
Thanks
