Black Lanterns Come to DC Deck Building Game in New Expansion
February 18, 2015 by dracs
A new evil is rising to threaten the DC universe and it is once again time to become a legendary super hero in order to take it down as Cryptozoic Entertainment prepare to bring out the DC Deck Building Game: Crisis 2 Expansion Pack.
As you can see from the cover art, this new expansion for the game will draw heavily from Blackest Night, one of the most popular and well known Green Lantern stories in which the dead of DC, and even the living who had been resurrected, were turned into Black Lanterns, essentially super-powered zombies!
In an interview with IGN UK, the game's developer Matt Hyra said that there would be many other new game aspects brought in with the Crisis 2 pack. These include things like Impossible Mode super-villains to make it just a bit more tough, and new super-heroes to play as.
However, the most intriguing addition is the inclusion of a co-operative mode. Players can now work together to take on Crisis cards, events or villainous plots that they must surpass before they can take on the villain. This also means players can become Crisis Super-Heroes.
As well as Crisis 2, Cryptozoic have their first Crossover pack for the DC Deck Building Game coming out in March, bringing the heroes and villains of the Justice Society of America to the game.
The Justice Society of America is a super-hero organisation which predates the Justice League. Made up of Golden Age DC Comics characters, they nonetheless still tend to play an important role in many modern story lines.
One of the most exciting things about this set is that it brings the art of Alex Ross (Kingdom Come) to the game, helping to capture the more retro feel of the Justice Society characters. Personally, I'm just psyched that Golden Age Sandman could be in this!
I have been playing the DC Deck Building Game a lot recently. It has become a firm favourite among my friends and we have been talking about picking up some expansions for it. Crisis 2 looks like the perfect way to breathe new life into our games, while the Crossover pack will bring plenty of fun additions to our decks. I will definitely be looking forward to these.
Have you tried the DC Deck Building Game?

The co-op mode is in the existing Crisis set. You’ll need have a copy of the before you can use the upcoming Crisis expansion. The co-op mode is fun but it takes around 2.5-3 hours to get through a game and it does have a tendency to bog down when certain crises come out.
Black Canary’s ability is an interesting one in Crisis mode. Usually, when you buy or gain a Villain in the regular pvp, it just goes into your discard pile like any other card. In CM, they get destroyed instead. You can’t defeat the crisis if there are any Villains in the Line Up so you can’t ignore them. In Black Canary’s case, they do into her deck, and if they have an Attack then playing the card means all the other players will be attacked by that Villain. Bit of a double-edged sword, that one.
Actually this expansion is apparently usable without the previous ones.
You are indeed correct. It looks to be exactly the same size as the first expansion so it’ll double the number of Main Deck cards that are Crisis Mode only.
I’ve just seen the Crisis 2 expansion in one of my local gaming/comic book stores. A little earlier than I expected.
That looks interesting.
