Games Workshop took some time this week to tick off a bucket list item for a lot of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy collectors. The Solar Auxilia, previously only available in Forge World Resin, are now going to be available in plastic with a whole host of new sets on the way to supplement this immense civil war.

Leading the way will be the new Solar Auxilia Battle Group which will contain a host of these miniatures for you to sink your teeth into. Whether you're a Loyalist or a Traitor, you will be able to run these miniatures alongside your Space Marines as you seek to burn or defend the galaxy.

Whilst rules for the Solar Auxilia have been around for a while now, the actual building of an army has been an expensive (mortgage-level) endeavour. With the new plastic sets, you'll be able to get stuck in and start building up a Solar Auxilia force without the hassle of sourcing the Forge World Resin.

Solar Auxilia Lasrifle Section - Warhammer The Horus Heresy

At the core of your Solar Auxilia force, you have the Lasrifle Section. Armed with some of the best mass-produced weapons that the Imperium can provide and clad in armour, these warriors will be your wall on which the enemy should break. You might lose a few souls along the way but that is a fair price to pay for either The Emperor or Horus' plan.

As well as a plastic Lasrifle Section, there is also a full Tactical Command Section for you to throw into the mix. I really like that bitz that you get in this set where you can see the way in which technology developed between The Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000.

Again, you might not be a massive super soldier clad in The Emperor's best kit but you've still got a power fist and if a Traitor comes knocking, you can send them flying. Additional miniatures in the new Army Box include the clanking Solar Auxilia Aethon Heavy Sentinel which will be your mobile fire platform of choice if you don't fancy running tanks.

Talking of tanks, if you do fancy going down that route then you'll also find two big vehicles in the Battle Group. There is a new miniature kit coming for the transport option of the Solar Auxilia, the Dracosan.

Adding some punch to your Solar Auxilia force, you will also find a kit for the Leman Russ Strike Tank that can punch a hole in all sorts of enemy armour, be it Space Marine or Solar Auxilia.

As mentioned above, all of this will come as part of the new Solar Auxilia Battle Group. This isn't a full army as mortal soldiers in The Horus Heresy are pretty cheap but it should give you a good set of miniatures to use when building your combined Loyalist and Traitor forces.

This set should be coming sooner rather than later so you won't have to wait long if you need to bolster your Horus Heresy forces.

More Solar Auxilia!

As if that wasn't enough, Games Workshop has also been working on more miniatures that will be coming out to support the Solar Auxilia. You can get yourself a new plastic Veletaris Storm Section.

They can be armed with ranged weapons or you can equip them with power axes if you fancy their chance in close combat. With their heavy suits of armour, the Storm Section is going to be great when it comes to holding key objectives and maybe putting in a shift when you need to butcher some Traitorous mortals who threw their lot in with Horus.

More is also coming on the tank front!

There is the Assault variant of the Leman Russ which will be good for getting up close and personal with the enemy plus the Malcador Heavy Tank that I know a lot of folks enjoy.

This is a hefty drop of plastic miniatures for The Horus Heresy and probably well overdue for those who have been collecting over the past few years. It's good to see the miniatures finally arriving in plastic as the conversion of the core range continues. I'm sure that Forge World will still be making some fun resin miniatures to use as characters with this force too.

What do you make of the new plastic kits for the Solar Auxilia?
