Hobday & Hicks Tease Elves For Their New Fantasy Wargame
December 28, 2023 by brennon
Andy Hobday and Paul Hicks have been showing off some more miniatures that will be coming to their 28mm Fantasy wargame that they have planned. We've seen Humans and Orcs aplenty but now it's time to get a look at the Elves!
Elven Mage // Hobday & Hicks
The original plan was to create a range of Orcs and Humans, around fifty for each faction, but they also recently got their hands on some lovely concept art by Peter Dennis featuring some wonderful-looking Elves. As you might imagine with any Peter Dennis artwork, this got the gears turning and so Hobday & Hicks have been working on bringing a range of these pointy-eared fellows to life. One of the first miniatures was the Mage (above) who is calling to the heavens and summoning down some powerful magics to aid their comrades.
There is also this set of Elven Archers who look suitably snooty and ready to look down on their lessers. I like the helmet designs and the way that their tunics cover their armour.

From the sounds of it over on social media, the Elves might have properly caught the attention of both Hobday & Hicks and they might find themselves popping up sooner rather than later in their plans for the miniatures range and the game.
The miniatures we've seen so far, at least for the Orcs and the Elves, have had a nice Tolkienesque feel to them. With that in mind, I could well see Hobday & Hicks focusing on both of those factions and creating a range fit for their unique Fantasy world but also for anyone wanting to do anything set during the Silmarillion in Middle-earth.
What do you make of these new Elves?

The screaming elf mage looks like a drum major. The other elves look like permutations of Nosferatu. I am not feeling these.
These are the best looking Tolkienesque elves since the Perry Twins’ original LotR range and Tom Meier’s Thunderbolt Mountain figures. I’d expect nothing less from the great Paul Hicks! Very excited about this range. These will look wonderful alongside Footsore’s existing Dark Age and Medieval miniatures.
