### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- As the days get shorter, darker and colder I feel this questions is more important than ever: Are you ok? And if not: would you like to talk to someone, have a hug or weather it like the rock weathers the storm? (So getting wet and mossy)
And now back to the show.
November 18, 2023 at 9:41 am #1849434My pledge: looking out for my own and others well being. So no miniature painting pressure for me, just some relaxing video games and movies.
My answer: Generally yes I am ok. little ups and downs but all that in a very reasonable scale.
Since it’s November and until the 21st December days will only get shorter I feel this is an important time to keep an eye out on people who suddenly fell silent in our community. Check on the people you now realise haven’t said/written/commented/posted much. You don’t need to solve their problems for them but a friendly “are you ok lad” could be all the need to make it back from the dark side of the mind.
I’ve talked about this on some occasions here, on videos and podcasts and I encourage you to do so too. Doesn’t need to be as public as I do but grab a mate and just see where it takes you.
Now, there will be no music following this right now but a link to a video I made a year ago. It’s focus is on the German audience and I have no clue how good auto translate is but maybe just listening might help anybody who needs it.
Stay safe out there!
November 18, 2023 at 12:01 pm #1849441I’ve just had two weeks off during which time I achieved all my goals… in that failed to achieve any of the hobby goals that I mentioned in a previous post 🙂
Shorter, darker and colder… sounds like an frigid dwarf… but as postie that’s just the end of every year for me… plus a lot more work delivering stuff.
My mental health is ‘adequate’. I’m not a cheerful soul at the best of times, but nothing really dragging me down at present… and I’m not a hugs person… so keep your grubby paws to yourself 🙂
Done my xmas shopping for the most part and it’s all arrived… so that’s good.
P.S. Tip for anyone sending mail in the UK… get those xmas cards posted as despite what management say… royal mail don’t give a shit about letters and cards… it’s all about the parcels and especially the tracked ones… so get them posted before the end of this month.
November 18, 2023 at 1:54 pm #1849458What? Royal Mail segregates parcels and letters? Unheard of!
Well… technically German Post does it also. But only because they outsourced the parcel stuff with a new company back in the day (DHL).
Speaking of Christmas: Secret Satan is packed now I need to bring it to the post office!
November 19, 2023 at 4:11 pm #1849525I posted my Secret Satan parcel yesterday. It only needs to go about 20 miles (I almost considered hand delivering it) so should get there with plenty of time to spare.
I just finished the last model from Aeon Trespass Odyssey. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1796204/
And with that I’ve painted every model I own (bar my Egyptian Raging Heroes project – I’m saving that for next year’s Spring Clean Challenge).
For that reason I’ve no ledge this week. Just taking it easy waiting for December’s raging heroes release so I can print it and paint it finish my 2023 project.
- As the days get shorter, darker and colder I feel this questions is more important than ever: Are you ok? And if not: would you like to talk to someone, have a hug or weather it like the rock weathers the storm? (So getting wet and mossy) – I’m good thanks for asking.
November 19, 2023 at 4:27 pm #1849526I posted my Secret Satan parcel yesterday. It only needs to go about 20 miles (I almost considered hand delivering it) so should get there with plenty of time to spare.
Yeah!
I just finished the last model from Aeon Trespass Odyssey.
He looks terrific. And somehow reminds me of the weird fantasy and scifi movies from the 80s like Conan and Krull
Speaking of Krull: @avernos planted another brainseed in my head and now I need to post it. (Watch todays XLBS to get the reference. Sorry @tgu3 it had to be done.
It’s late and I’ll be off preparing dinner. You lote keep safe 🙂
November 20, 2023 at 6:11 am #1849583Good morning everyone. It is Monday and our dear not so secret Santa-iago has spun around the sun once more.
Happy Birthday @horati0nosebl0wer
November 20, 2023 at 7:55 am #1849585November 20, 2023 at 9:14 am #1849616Fake news alert!
Although I almost believed it myself when Facebook and Google and even my Outlook calendar all greeted me with birthday greetings this morning!
And my wife’s phone has told her to send me birthday greetings too.
But it stems back from when I very first joined Facepage. Or, at least, refused to, and my mates at Nerd Club signed me up instead. And they knew my birthday was imminent so just took a guess. They were about a week out. But ever since, the news has spread (rather worryingly across multiple platforms) that my birthday is on 20th November.
So much that even my sister once phoned me almost a week early to ask if she’d missed it that year.
So thanks for the sentiment. If it helps everyone else, I’m more than happy to go buy any gobble cake this afternoon too.
November 20, 2023 at 9:23 am #1849619see, this is what you get for messing with the Almighty Algorithm! (All hail the omnisiah! I welcome our data breaching overlards)
November 20, 2023 at 7:57 pm #1849764There’s a small community of musicians and open mic attendees who only know me as “Bigus Chrisus” thanks to my first-ever Facebook account. I don’ t think I’m minded to correct them. Plus, two birthdays a week apart? Sounds like fun.
On with the question. Jeez, it’s a big one.
Just a few days days ago, I would have said that yeah, I was ok.
I think I still am. But just this evening, I got news that mum had taken a turn for the worse and had been committed to hospital. Things have moved quickly since she got diagnosed, and it’s all been a bit of a blur but I’ve been ok. I just think it’s all catching up with me a little bit.So thanks for asking. Despite all that, I still think I’m ok. More that, I’ve got three sisters to look out for. My closest sister and I seem to be ok. The eldest and youngest aren’t handling it well. Still, one way or another, it looks like we’re all going to get together over Xmas this year, for the first time in about 30 years. Either with my mum, or without her.
Sorry to bring the tone down a bit.
But you did ask 😉November 20, 2023 at 8:37 pm #1849767Pledge: take a long overdue nap and settle in for a bit of hobby later
Am I OK? Generally yes, but it’s always something to work on as is the case with minis. Hugs are welcome and hot chocolate eagerly received if offered. I’m presently getting free dessert for the occasion of solar circling so life is okie doke.
Speaking of the getting older, I got my eyes checked and I’m on the verge of bifocals. I might check in on gradient prescriptions in order to not mess with my head too much. Hobby lenses could be a thing in the not too distant future.
By the by I spotted something @hazyboy75 might be interested in.
@avernos Here’s something to try for UHH
November 20, 2023 at 8:44 pm #1849768@blinky465 it can be stressful dealing with aging parents. Lost my father to dementia in 2016 and my mother just before xmas in 2018 to just generally getting older and weaker.
I hope you and your family cope as well can be expected under the circumstances.
November 21, 2023 at 5:37 am #1849824Sorry to bring the tone down a bit.
No need to be sorry I do mean what I say when I say: speak to me. Best wishes to you and your family @blinky465
“Drinking Hazy Boy live” somehow has a bad ring to it @horati0nosebl0wer XD On the topic of glasses: the sooner you start using bifocal the better you’ll get used to. Though my wife highly suggests to got for “varifocals/progressive spectacles” if possible. (Bifocal have a hard cut going from near to far sight and varifocals have a transition so that it’s not as obvious and noticeable)
Tuesday. More coffee needed. Though I do feel rather awake after cycling to work. Which I don’t like. because I notice people here. People!
November 21, 2023 at 8:27 am #1849847Cycling to work is awesome! Nothing makes you feel more like you’re part of your town/city and actually belong there, then walking or cycling to work.
People? They’ll get used to you ?
Just as the become familiar faces on your daily commute, so will you too, to them. Not the best time of year to be cycling, but the weather’s not always terrible. Take a change of shirt for when you get to the office (mmmm, so clean and fresh, lovely!) And some over trousers for when it’s raining.
Promise you, come the spring, when you’re setting off early so you can stop for coffee along the way and a little sit in the sunshine, you’ll see it’s one of the best things you could have done!
(yeah, it might be cold and wet and miserable through the winter, but even that can be fun if you’re properly prepared).
Great job getting the bike out. One day you’ll love it! Honestly….
