Grab A New Battle Group & More For Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
October 9, 2023 by brennon
Games Workshop and Forge World continue their exploration of The Horus Heresy with a big new book and more miniatures for this epic civil war that served as the origin story for Warhammer 40,000. Leading the way is a brand-new book, Exemplary Battles Of The Age Of Darkness.

This hefty book expands and updates on the Exemplary Battles book from the previous edition of The Horus Heresy. It has reworked missions and revised unit profiles within as well as a new Exemplary Battle for you to play out. In addition, there is also a focus on the mighty Fulgrim Transfigured and his Emperor's Children Legiones Hereticus force. That means full rules for him and his followers. You'll be able to pick up this book physically or get it digitally if you prefer that option.
A New The Horus Heresy Battle Group
As well as a new book, you can also pick up a new Battle Group that could work as a neat starting point for your armies in The Horus Heresy.
Legiones Astartes Battle Group // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
This set comes with a solid Battle Force that could be used to represent either the Loyalists or Traitors. Inside, you'll get the reworked plastic kit for the MKIII Space Marines plus a Land Raider Proteus. There is also the fully plastic Deredeo Dreadnought and a Legiones Astartes Special Weapon Upgrade set that you can use to make them a fighting force able to take on all manner of foes.
It's nice to see the MKIII Power Armour getting an update to bring it in line with the scale and proportions of the other sets for this edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. These miniatures are going to be great for making those grim and resolute warriors like those of the Salamanders, Imperial Fists, Death Guard and more.
Add To Your Legion
As well as the new Battle Group, you can also get your hands on miniatures from it separately including the Legiones Astartes MKIII Tactical Squad.
Legiones Astartes MKIII Tactical Squad // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
This set gives you those "Iron" armoured warriors with options for making a Vexilla, Vox and Sergeants as well as arming miniatures with plasma pistols and power fists plus the standard Bolt Gun. You can use this to make two ten-man Tactical Squads or a single twenty-man Tactical Squad. As with the rest of the kits for The Horus Heresy, these are very modular and can be mixed and matched with other sets from Games Workshop and Forge World. This makes a lot of sense as the Legions would regularly patch and repair their armour with whatever they could take from their fallen enemies.
Another of the miniatures that you'll be able to pick up is the Legiones Astartes Deredeo Dreadnought.

This version of the Dreadnought has been built in the Anvilus Configuration and is effectively a walking gun platform, set up and ready to turn any foe into slag. Whether you're looking to destroy infantry or vehicles, this Dreadnought is equipped to do so.
You are also going to be able to pick up the Armoury Of The Sons Of Horus set.

This set gives you some Forge World resin upgrades for your commanders and officers amongst your Sons Of Horus. You have the brutal and deadly Carsoran Power Weapons and the Banestrike Bolters which are going to punch and slice holes through enemy Battle Brothers.
With these options now available for you to scoop up, could this be your chance to start a new army in Warhammer: The Horus Heresy?

The Deredeo Dreadnought is absolutely awesome! The term Anvilus Configuration reminds me of Bigus Dickus, however…
Like the new “Compensator” dreadnought (well he certainly is compensating for something….. 😀 )
Ooh very nice.
