Empress Miniatures_Xhosa Casualty

Xhosa Command & Casualties // Empress Miniatures

The first pack is a mix of command figures and casualties. A mounted commander with aide is supplemented by two Basotho warriors with muskets along with four casualty models which are ideal for both multi-basing or for markers in a variety of game systems.

Amafenkhosi Veterans // Iron Duke Miniatures

The pack of eight veteran Amafenkhosi warriors with feathered headdresses and carrying multiple assegai and one carrying the distinctive cloth over his arm which makes for an ideal leader figure as easily identifiable in the unit.

Xhosa Attacking Pack // Empress Miniatures

The final pack is a large set of skirmishers, fourteen strong led by an Amafenkhosi veteran. It comes with a variety of weapon options mixing guns with traditional clubs and assegai.

The miniatures themselves are one-piece cast metals with some requiring separate weapons. The work Iron Duke Miniatures has put into the research for the Anglo-Basotho conflict is, as always, excellent and for people who want to explore the myriad of conflicts on the Cape of Africa it's great to see more variety. Even though these figures are for the 1840-50 conflict they could easily fit in several wars across a slightly broader time period, including the Zulu Wars as they often fought against tribes displaced by the Zulu expansion.

Definitely worth checking out the Xhosa and the British and colonial forces from Iron Duke if you want to play out some conflicts on the Transorangia and a series of conflicts that often gets overshadowed by the much shorter Zulu war.

Will you be picking these up?
