Disney Lorcana Card Game Expands With New Set Soon
September 13, 2023 by brennon
Ravensburger's Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game has had a pretty solid launch. The game seems to have gone down well and features some interesting mechanics that make it quick to pick up and play. I think it also helps that it seems to have dove deep into the Disney back catalogue when it comes to its art and design! Well, a second set is coming very soon to help bulk out collections.
Rise Of The Floodborn - Illumineers Trove // Disney Lorcana
Rise Of The Floodborn is going to be the latest addition to Disney Lorcana and will feature new cards, art, mechanics and more. Six additional Disney tales will be added into the Lorcana world with this release including Snow White, Pinocchio, Zootopia, The Great Mouse Detective, The Jungle Book and Raya And The Last Dragon.
Additionally, the story for this is going to be growing to include these new characters...
"This set dips into the inky origins of floodborn glimmers. The six magical inks… Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel, were released in a mixed-up chaotic form, resulting in a mysterious flood which damaged the Great Illuminary. When storyborn or dreamborn glimmers encounter this mixed ink, they surge with a power that changes them, transforming them into floodborn glimmers. As the magical ink poured out of the illuminary, treasured lore went with it, including King Triton’s powerful trident."
This new range of cards is also going to be supported by a further two Starter Sets which you can use to get stuck into playing Lorcana with friends.
Rise Of The Floodborn - Starter Decks // Disney Lorcana
These Starter Decks cover Amber and Sapphire as well as Amethyst and Steel. These will feature some of the new cards as well as introduce the Resist Keyword which helps your characters avoid incoming damage when they are heading off on their adventures.
Plenty of accessories and such are also coming your way with Rise Of The Floodborn including new game mats and card sleeves. You'll also be able to pick up a special collector's set for Disney100, celebrating (you guessed it) 100 years of Disney.
Disney100 Edition // Disney Lorcana
This set will come with a variety of alternative artwork pieces representing some iconic characters from Disney's back catalogue. They will also have the Disney100 frame design, a satin holographic foil finish (fancy) and a copy of the animator's signature. You'll also get a bunch of packs for Rise Of The Floodborn included in this set.
Are you going to be getting a closer look at Disney Lorcana and this new set?

Talking about blood from a stone?
Would be nice if they would be able to fulfill the demand for the first wave before announcing a second. 😉
They have confirmed that there are going to be reprinting Set 01 in early 2024. It is a brand new card game from a company that’s more familiar with board games than they are with trading card games.
New card games always have issues with demand in the first couple of sets before finding their mojo during the 3rd/4th sets. Yes, people knew from the get-go that a Disney card game would sell out like hotcakes but that was primarily because people knew that they’d be buying boxes to keep sealed for future collections.
I’m interested to see how the game looks like after the third set. With the first set, it really feels like there’s two strategies to play: few guys with a lotta Lore or lotta guys with a little Lore. A lack of interaction when it’s not your turn and no true multi-step combos in the game makes it pretty casual IMO
Hopefully, future sets will continue to define color identity and introduce actual multi-card combos
I wanted to get into ot but i was too slow 😉
But I will surely get the set with Merlin, I really like the Sowrd in the Stone. I hope Mim is also part of that expansion.
