New Community Voted Miniatures From Bad Squiddo Games!
August 18, 2023 by brennon
Bad Squiddo Games have been running a neat program over the last while which is focused on the community getting their chance to decide on which miniatures are made next. You can join The Community Miniatures Project and help the team explore the different characters they should be bringing to life. The first batch of 28mm Historical miniatures have now popped up on the Bad Squiddo webstore!
Black Agnes // Bad Squiddo Games
There are currently ten miniatures in the collection with six of them designed and ready to pre-order ahead of a September release. The other four are in the process of being worked on and will be coming out sometime in December this year.
All of the miniatures have been sculpted by Alan Marsh and are great snapshots of famous women from history that would be great to get to the tabletop in some fashion. What's also neat is that the Bad Squiddo entries on their webstore give you a little potted history of the miniatures.
Ching Shih // Bad Squiddo Games
For example, you can pick up Ching Shih and learn more about her...
"Zheng Yi was the commander of the Red Flags – a band of pirates. His fleet was around 300 ships, which Ching Shih inherited after his death. She took over immediately and over a relatively short period of time, through immense leadership, turned this fleet into around 70,000 crew and 2000 ships, said to be the largest ever. And why isn’t she a household name? Right?"
You can also get more from Annie's various write-ups on the different characters and explore the design process that went into bringing them to life.
Empress Zenobia // Bad Squiddo Games
I think this is a really great initiative and it has been fun looking into the history behind these various ladies. It would be great to see if this spurred on people to come up with interesting scenarios to play using these miniatures.
For example, I think you could do an excellent game based around Harriet Tubman and smuggling slaves along the Underground Railroad.
Harriet Tubman // Bad Squiddo Games
We've seen other creators do something similar to this but it has mostly been focused around asking the community if they want specific miniatures and gauging interest. This initiative by Bad Squiddo takes it an extra step which I like and it's fun looking at the design process and also feeling like you could have an active hand in bringing something to life.

Eleanor Of Aquitaine // Bad Squiddo Games
