Unboxing: Victrix Ju87 G2 STUKA
February 4, 2015 by dignity
Justin and John strap on their goggles and take to the skies to pilot the Ju87 G2 STUKA from Victrix.
The Stuka was a two man German dive bomber and ground attack aircraft with a nifty looking gull wing shape. The version Victrix has in the box is the effective tank buster variant.
The kit comes with three planes plus some handy telescopic flight stands to set your craft in whatever pose and height you like.
Will you go airborne with this kit?

‘horizontal stabilizers’, – ‘ailerons’ are the actual control surfaces on the “rear wings”, so not so far off target 🙂
-correcting myself before some else does, the ‘ailerons’ control roll and our found on the wings, the control surfaces on the horizontal stabilizers are called ‘elevators’
I’d like to hear @warzan‘s opinions on cupping the ball mount.
I gave a long lecture in here on filming day about the importance of cupping the ball mount, and how if said ball mount was not cupped correctly, all sorts of unnecessary floppiness would ensue!
Innuendos aside
Do you remember the old Matchbox kits with 2 or 3 colour plastic?
They came (noooo I should not have said that) with a cup and ball mount stand so you could have it at different angles.
(Doh I did it again!)
I think their inability to fully extend the rod may be related to improper cupping of the ball.
Justin, 1/72 is God’s true scale when it comes to model aircraft!!
The reason for the two sets of wheels is that the spats were sometimes removed in the field due to them getting clogged up in adverse conditions.
A nice little touch by Victorex to provide the option
Just noticed the winter camouflage is not strictly correct.
The aircraft were painted with a water soluble white paint for the winter which would start to wear off, so the typical splinter camo (as per the upper picture) would start to show through
Being nitpicky I know but if people are wanting a more authentic paint job, it may be helpful to know that the ribbon camo depicted is not quite right
HTH
The matchbox tanks were nice with the little diorama base you got with them
They sometimes get repopped by Revell from time to time
i really want to get hold of these for battle group kursk
“Only a handful of production Gs were committed in the Battle of Kursk. On the opening day of the offensive, Hans-Ulrich Rudel flew the only “official” Ju 87 G, although a significant number of Ju 87D variants were fitted with the 37 mm (1.46 in) cannon, and operated as unofficial Ju 87 Gs before the battle. In June 1943, the RLM ordered 20 Ju 87Gs as production variants.”

The possibility of twin-engine heavy fighters and light bombers was mentioned on their site a few months back.
Jolly nice Tiffy on the Taxi Rank!
been assembling a couple of air observers for bolt action, those telescopic stands get em nice and high, really wouldn’t matter that they’re of different scale… Armoured platoons in Bolt Action too over powered? Meh. KILL THEM WITH FIRE!! STUKA DIVE DIVE DIVE!!!
love the stand nice stuka, yup the wheels fairings would fill with mud & grass on some airfields jamming & crashing the plane’s when taking off / landing.
They look really quite good. Get the Typhoon over to balance out.
Warlord do some alternative rules to let you fly aircraft onto the table in Bolt Action, these are technically a bit small bit at high altitude they’d look good. IMHO
Another great Unboxing episode, @johnlyons and @divinity . The 1/100 Stuka-G is indeed a beast. The Stuka is one of those planes that’s so hideous it almost “uglies” its way through the other side to become a strange sort of beautiful. I recently received a 1/100 Typhoon, and MAN is it big! This is why most mini companies make their planes in 1/144. Planes are just a helluva lot bigger than tanks on average. I would love to see an Il-2 Sturmovik or Hs-129 in 1/100 . . . although you’d almost have to install a new shelf just for… Read more »
Have a look at the Airfix 1/24 Tiffy!
It is interesting to see a Typhoon against a Panther, like I was able to with my 1/72 kits before the Great Electrician’s Ladder Disaster of 2004 *weeps*
So much bigger than the tank you wonder how they get a whole crew in the latter lol
Of course Jerry wasn’t the first cove to stick a pair of tank busting 40mm cannon on a kite

Oh yeah, these are the Hurricane-Ds, right? Nice.
Yup! Hurricane IID
The tactic was to “walk” up to the target using a single .303 tracer in each wing then use the cannon.
The MkIV could also be fitted with the 40mm guns on the “universal wing”
For anyone interested in the rules, they are going to be done by Mongoose Publishing.
They are scheduled for Summer and are based on the Battlefield Evolution Rules.
Looks like they are also making rules for the other Victrix kits.

Looking nice. A year ago (or whenever it was), Andy Chambers was interviewed on the Bolt Action Radio podcast, and was talking about a air game he’s writing for the eastern front.
What about unboxing the Typhoon?
