If you're looking to play out some Crusader-era wargames in 28mm then you could be tempted to set up an impressive siege or two. Well, how about taking a peek at this excellent Western/Crusader Castle which comes as a modular set from Empires At War?

This set comes unpainted and you can either go with a smaller Starter Castle or you can go in and pick up everything including the separate gates, towers, walls and steps. The kit was researched and designed by Mick Nichol and whilst this is a Crusader-style castle, the keep portion should generally be used for more Western Castles than Crusader ones. Still, this allows you to build an exceptionally impressive castle in a variety of ways to suit your terrain.

The modular nature of the kit means that you can build this as a square structure but you can also go a different direction and play around with lots of turrets and more if you prefer. As you can see, it looks particularly impressive sitting atop this rocky outcrop here on this Medieval tabletop.

I think this seems like a great castle for you to snap up and use in your games. The modular nature of the kit is great for those wanting to store the castle away easily as well as craft it to suit their tabletops. Additionally, there is a lot making the terrain playable including plenty of space on the walls and at the top of towers.

It would be great to see someone splash some colour over this and show off what you can do with the various modular elements! If you're interested in the different bits of siege equipment showcased here as well, they are also available from the Empires At War webstore.

Could you be tempted by this terrain?
