May 22, 2023 by brennon
The New Cities Of Sigmar miniatures for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar are continuing to look absolutely awesome. A new preview this week showed off the impressive heroes that are going to be at the forefront of your Dawnbring Crusades out into The Mortal Realms. Meet the Freeguild Marshals and their Relic Envoys.

These fine officers have come out of military academies and are master tacticians. Whilst that might make you think that they have no experience, many of them are also veterans of multiple wars and have learned their lessons in the heat of battle.
The miniature that you get to choose for your Freeguild Marshal can be chopped and changed with a variety of different weapons and heads. This means you can choose your Marshal for the task at hand or maybe run a few of them whilst not looking like you run armies of clones.

I also appreciate, and I'm sure a lot of other folks will as well, that these Freeguild Marshals have options to make characters from different backgrounds thanks to the variety of face shapes. It looks awesome whilst also being awesome at the same time.
You'll also note the Relic Envoy that comes alongside the Marshal. These have been hand-picked from amongst the finest squires and are braver than some soldiers twice their age. They carry with them an artefact or relic from their family line that is able to whisper advice or grant forth boons on the battlefield. A handy thing to have when you're miles from civilisation and looking to build an entirely new city in a realm which wants to kill you.

With the look at some command figures coming to the Cities Of Sigmar, I would guess that we're not far off Games Workshop announcing the big launch box for this range. It is going to be fascinating what stays around as part of the Freeguild range and what gets squatted into oblivion. We've got core troops, cavalry and heroes. We just need some big bits of kit and elite warriors to cap things off.
Do you like the look of the new Free Cities miniatures?

The knight with the shield looks better of the two.
Freeguild Marshal & Relic Envoy… that’s only two! Not enough for a crusade!
So bland. So formulaic. So safe
Welcome to the world of copyrightable miniature design folks
Compared to what?
Old School Empire Captains. Simple pistol, crazy feathers held onto his helmet with knives, warhammer with the Emperor’s initials on it, standard enough looking but just crazy enough to be fantasy. Giant mace, giant scar and a bottle of grog.
Classic example is Valten, Chosen of Sigmar. Three super interesting minis, none overdone and all different but with a theme. A lot of the new stuff is just detail for the sake of it, super generic and way too clean.
So a historical figure with fantasy-sized weapons and a dude straight up from Manowar album cover?
At least I know this is just more of Old Good New Bad and not a valid critique 🙂
Thanks for telling me what I believe and what my opinions are. I really liked the new Bretonnian Hero, the new Cadians were also really well done same with the Rough Riders and the new Lion was awesome, the Commissar was terrible though compared to the older sculpts. Wait, no I mean they all suck giant hairy balls, oh no I’m being sucked into a paradox portal for not being a stereotype nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. You can enjoy whatever you like, I find some newer GW minis meh, not all but enough to notice. This isn’t Twitter or Reddit or whatever, people… Read more »
