Thank you for the comments to the previous post. Just taking stock and thinking about it logically has given me some incites into what I was doing.

First thing is do I aim for an Giger art style or go for a more Blanche look. Many be I should go for both. If I aim for a Giger look I will need to build up the colour gradually. His painting style starts with a deep block that fades as it goes along in a similar vain to watercolour. Which neatly leads me to point two.

The issues I was having painting the models after the first coat is bleeding obvious when I thought about it. Woodstain, contains varnish. No wonder I had issues with the paint. So I need to stop with my old thinking and use different techniques

I wonder whether an oil wash might achieve the type of result you want? If you don’t know anything about the technique, check out this Gerry tutorial https://www.beastsofwar.com/painting/gerry-can-show-you-how-to-shade-with-oil-paints/

Considering the art for Giger’s biomechanical work and that he airbrushed in black you could go down the route of that Slap-thingy technique Gerry loves ❤️❤️❤️ (Lol).

If you go true xenomorph maybe go with a dark gray speedpaint to get the general color down for highlights. I think that hits the spot for the production still from the creature design in Alien. After that hit the models with black for the recesses and/wipe the parts you want to pop back up from “the darkness” (chiaroscuro with highlights?) You might also try a very very dark blue too.
