Dang — out of SF and Fantasy, but terrain and RPG still available.

So how often do they have the Crazy Box sales? I remember them from the holidays.

Signed up for their newsletter, so thanks!

Shipping: Got free shipping at $150 to USA, although shipping page shows a $250 threshold.

Mantic reduced shipping for the sale just in case you are after something  in the future

I think it’s worth remembering that a lot of this “restic” stuff is pretty meh by today’s standards. £25 might sound good but a lot of the content is not exactly premium: some of their Restic stuff is not really worth the £25-30 they are charging. The PVC stuff is great for boardgames (what they were designed for) but not fit for purpose as wargame miniatures or painting projects 🙁 The sci-fi box had a LOT of dubious restic stuff from the 1st edition of Deadzone 2014ish.  I am dubious as to if you could shift it on eBay either.

I hear the terrain box is REALLY good. The RPG box I got was so bad I suspect it was a mispack.

The real beauties imo were the two rulebooks they put in, for Warpath and Vanguard. Always a joy reading what Mantic’s ruleswriters have come up with!

    Thanks! Impulse purchase made!

Also thanks! Uh… already made the purchase. 😛 RPG box and terrain box, since they didn’t have sf or fantasy. I do have the super-old Warpath Dwarves vs. Orcs, and old KoW undead vs. orcs sets, so I guess I should know what I’m getting into? :O Well, we’ll see. I don’t have any Mantic rulebooks larger than their smaller softcovers, so who knows.

I was tempted but I want to get specific minis,  I don’t mind some restic but wouldn’t want to do a whole Firefight army of them.   Even once new stuff is out e.g. for Rebs it will be handy to get additional old minis for options and variety.   I looked  a while back at doing a Deadzone Rebs team and getting the minis from eBay and it would have been hard to do and not cheap.   And the rulebooks wouldn’t be good for me as I want less rather than more of them on my shelf 😀   Hope if they are putting the Vanguard book in the crazy box there is going to be a new edition.

I think the oldschool Undead and Orks are great but they’re hard plastic. It’s just really apparent some of it is old stock, the old restic/pvc Deadzone stuff all has recent, excellent hard plastic models now. The ogres in the fantasy box are the old restic stuff, now superseded by some amazing hard plastic Ogres.

If you ordered the Terrain Box you’re gonna get.. a lot of recent terrain. The RPG box I got was useless and I honestly think it was an error as other unboxing vids showed it was pretty damn good with a lot of Hellboy stuff that I got none of.

I have no idea but I assumed the Vanguard Book and tokens were there to temp you into playing the game?

They would like to tempt you into playing the game but I think it’s the weakest of their games.   The game seemed to do well at the start then it went into a decline as far I can see.   It’s the Mantic game that most needs the rules looking at and points adjusting.   I think it needs a complete re-write to get up to the level of their other games.   I still found it fun….

    Mantic Terrain randomness arrived.

Bit disappointed it’s most modern/post apocalyptic.

One small bag of dungeon-ish and a box of dungeon essentials.

    Not sure of the value.IMG_20230413_143519

Edit: Just unbagged it all. About 150 individual pieces of terrain although some are tiny and useless and I didn’t count them… around 120 pieces are modern era.

The Dungeon Essentials box would cost £25 from mantic, so in effect I got all the modern stuff for the £4.50 it cost them to ship it me.

    Got mine today as well!

Terrain: Jam-packed, but also non-fantasy stuff. Not surprised, since the fantasy was more popular. Good for post-apoc gaming or lovely pleasant day dioramas, I suppose. Did get two more trees to add to my shoddy Mantic tree collection!

RPG: Pretty scanty supply compared to the terrain box. This is where some of the fantasy terrain ended up. No rulebooks. 28mm. Got lucky with fantasy terrain I wanted more of, such as traps and a boulder! I didn’t back any Mantic boardgames, so haven’t seen these mini’s before. Got a Hellboy miniature, but didn’t see the plastic quality some Mantic backers said was an improvement over their previous games. EDIT: Pretty much the same contents as Stubbybrush!

Satisfied my curiosity and got my dopamine hit. But since I skipped out on the boardgames, I got an idea of what I missed. It’s boardgame plastic, so I’m glad Archon is around with its inexpensive harder plastic.

Not certain I’m adding anything here. I’ve never bought from Mantic before, except to download their free rules.

So when I first saw this post I decided to take a punt on the RPG box, as I wasn’t in the market for more terrain.

Reading the previous entries I’m not sure I would have bought the Sci Fi or Wargaming boxes even if they had been avaiable.

Arrived on Wednesday 12th which was fairly quick.

Box was full ( I do mean full ) of very random contents ……….

Some hard cardstock floor plans for a volcanic dugeon (?).

A bag of plastic dungeon traps including the Indiana Jones rolling rock.

A bag of treasure piles and another with a church pulpit and font, plus another with some ” macguffins “.

A resin(?) square base with a pentogram and a seprate half devil risng from it, base was very warped but hot water should solve that.

    Also a portal piece.

    4 very large plastic ” monsters ” on 100 & 75 mm bases.

3 more on 50 mm baes

6 other figures, mostly demon / devil types, plus a couple of ” heroes “.

A bag with two large leaping cats.

Another 8 figures are in blue-platic with very floppy weapons, again hot water should solve them.

There are also two female figures with multiple spare heads but NO ARMS.

I couldn’t find any of this stuff on the Mantic site, so I’m asssuming these are mostly board games pieces.

A quick comparison check on the Etsy 3d printed figures site suggest that I might have got about £100 worth of stuff.

Overall I’m quite pleased with the contents. True I would never have purchased them under normal circumstances.

I got the Terrain crazy box.  I couldn’t be bothered to track out which sets everything came from as it was loads of part sets.  I could imagine it would roughly be around the £125 mark.  Around 2/3 would be useful for early-mid 20th century – statues, ruins, bomb-damaged furniture, telephone box, that sort of thing. The rest was mainly modern stuff like tents.  One pile of treasure for fantasy and some “dungeon furniture” type stuff that I will probably donate to D&D-playing friends.  I’m happy with that.  I won’t be using the modern stuff anytime soon, but its good stuff, so if I ever take up a game in that genre then the stuff’s all ready for me, or if a friend does I’ll give it to them. And I easily got my money’s worth of things that I definitely will use.  With this kind of random buy, you are unlikely to have an immediate use for everything and I was anticipating that.  Would I have wished for a bigger proportion of “useful” to “not immediately useful” stuff? Sure.  And I really would have preferred more chunky blocking terrain rather than “dressing” and “scatter” type items.  But it was still worthwhile.  And part of the fun is the punt – £25 isn’t a lot these days to chance on some fun.
