FFG’s Quest Continues In Descent Expansion, The Betrayer’s War
April 5, 2023 by brennon
Descent: Legends Of The Dark from Fantasy Flight Games expands in the near future with the second act of this epic quest. The Betrayer's War was showcased at the end of March, inviting you back to the world of Terrinoth.
The Betrayer's War // Descent: Legends Of The Dark
In this new expansion, the heroes from the first game, Brynn, Chance, Galaden, Kehli, Syrus and Vaerix must struggle to save the kingdom and Terrinoth as a whole from an evil that threatens to destroy everything in its path. You'll find new abilities for your characters, new foes to fight and of course, a brand new story to dive into.

Interestingly, the folks at Fantasy Flight Games decided to continue the story of the heroes from the first game rather than introduce us to a new roster of characters. Each of them is going to be getting a serious upgrade in terms of the arms, armour and abilities and in a way, I think it will be fun to see these same characters continue their story. It lends the game a much more epic feel as they start to come up against bigger and badder enemies throughout their adventures.
As well as the new ways for heroes to kick ass and take names, the enemies they will be facing are equally as brutal. The Dragonlord Levirax is battling Waiqar’s armies and the numerous hordes of Uthuk are also on the warpath. There are plenty of BIG new foes for your heroes to test themselves against.
I'm sure we'll learn more about The Betrayer's War in the run-up to the game's release in August but so far, it seems like a good step in the right direction. Legends Of The Dark seems to have gone down quite well, bringing together new mechanics, new ideas for building "dungeons" and making good use of a digital app. I am eager to see where this expansion goes.
Will you be having a closer look at The Betrayer's War?

Their be Dragon’s.
I wonder if we’ll see some more aggressive discounts of the first box to get more people who might buy the second. It was not an easy seller (apologies to people who don’t have that level of information themselves), so having a non-stand alone big box expansion is a surprisingly risky move.
With so many big box adventure games out there, it was a big thing for FFG – it will be interesting to see where it goes.
Yeah, I got my copy for $75. Miniatures are impressive (at least by boardgaming standards), but the cardboard terrain is laughable. Maybe they should have also penned in the edges of the terrain. I have Battle Systems (late pledge available for their Maladum dungeon terrain KS), and even Mantic terrain (available in their Dungeon Saga KS), both under $160.
After the negative review by Shut Up and Sit Down, I’d give Descent a pass — unless you can get it at a hefty discount and want more cool miniatures you’ll never going to paint. 😛
A gigantic demon… but cardboard flame tokens?
Dread to think how much that box will cost. Original was way overpriced.
$160 dollors for a expansion, not much info on whats in the box… hope more then just in the picture ?
