Mantic’s Dungeon Saga Origins Funded On Kickstarter!
April 4, 2023 by brennon
Mantic Games launched their Kickstarter at the tail end of last week for Dungeon Saga Origins, their reinvention and revamp of the awesome dungeon crawler that hit tabletops a few years ago. Dungeon Saga Origins looks to refine the mechanics and experience as a whole, offering up a new chance for newcomers and veterans to dive into some classic dungeon delving.

At the core of the new Kickstarter is the Legendary Pledge which comes with everything that you'd need to get started with Dungeon Saga Origins and more. The classic heroes are back, looking to cut their teeth on their first adventure as they tackle the undead.

The core experience that you'll dive into with Dungeon Saga Origins is Trial Of Tyranny. This is a campaign that covers ten quests and can be played in a versus mode where one player takes on the role of the Dungeon Master/Overlord or you can fight together cooperatively where the enemies are controlled by the game's inbuilt AI. To that end, you can also play the game solo if you prefer!
If you'd like to know more about the game, there is a neat set of gameplay videos over on the Kickstarter including this one from BlackJack Legacy

You can also download the Rules over on Kickstarter and have a peek at them yourselves. As well as those core quests and a host of undead foes, the Legendary Pledge also contains a bunch of additional expansions including Glimmer Of Greed...

...which has you battling against a greenskin horde of Goblins. There is also the deadly Daughters Of Doom expansion where you'll end up clashing with the fearsome Abyssal Dwarfs of Pannithor.

The last of the expansions contained within the Legendary Pledge introduces new miniatures for the Twilight Kin as part of Mirrors Of Malice.

I think this is going to be one of the expansions that most people are eager to dive into. The new miniatures for the Twilight Kin are looking great and it's nice to see that Mantic Games have put their unique spin on the classic "Dark Elves" of other Fantasy wargames.
If you're looking to expand on your experience with Dungeon Saga Origins even more then you can also get your hands on the Ultimate Pledge which comes with the core game, three expansions and a bunch of extras including a screen, dice tray and game organiser as well as some 3D terrain.

I like that we've got some themed terrain that goes with each of the expansions. This will be very handy for setting the scene and getting you in the right mood as you head off on more dungeon-delving adventures.
Of course, Mantic have also got all of the bells and whistles attached to this campaign when it comes to Stretch Goals as well. New heroes and more are being unlocked throughout the process of the campaign and more besides.
Could you be tempted to dive into Dungeon Saga once more with the Origins Kickstarter?

And we have 3 new heroes as well….
Ooh Wow that’s a great looking game an the figures are fabulous as well.
I haven’t checked with Mantic webstore to confirm this, but even if you just want the minis and terrain… that looks a decent price.
And they now have mini packs as add ons at a very low price – so you can come aboard just for those if you dont want the game
Kinda surprised this isn’t doing better. Original Dungeon Saga cleared $1 million while this trundles along at $250k with 10 days left.
It’s not the innovative product original DS was. It’s more of the same and there’s more competition (see Battlesystems Maladum).
And Mantic isn’t the KS-fuelled company it was back then. They need money to tool, then it’ll be more about the retail sales. A relatively modest KS supports that aim.
Also, all KS trundle in the middle. it could finish significantly higher.
The original DS was a cluster, so I doubt many previous backers returned. Also, until Hellboy, Mantic was known for their “meh” plastics. Plus, if you wanted HeroQuest, you bought HeroQuest during its KS and now in retail. And, of course, CMON is in the room. I’m saving up for CMON and Archon. Myself, I don’t mind the yuck earlier plastics, as they’re fine for tabletop, so picked up some Mantic Crazy Boxes during their sale so I can get more stuffs. DS is fine if you don’t already have a dungeoncrawler and want to start off your collection of… Read more »
Love the tweaks to the rules and the new minis.
