New Starter Sets On The Way For Atomic Mass’ X-Wing
March 27, 2023 by brennon
Atomic Mass Games has been sharing more from Adepticon about what awaits their various Star Wars games. One of the previews from last week concerned the new Starter Packs that are going to be available for those diving into playing Star Wars: X-Wing.
Rebel Alliance Squadron Starter Pack // X-Wing
There are going to be two Squadron Starter Packs that have been designed to include everything that you need in order to play as either the dogged Rebel Alliance or the terrible Galactic Empire. Each set comes with a good host of ships for you to play around with that gives you a vibe of the faction.
Rebel Alliance Squadron Starter Pack - Miniatures // X-Wing
The first of the sets for the Rebel Alliances comes with two A-Wings alongside one Y-Wing and one of the classic X-Wings. This gives you some nippy additions to your squadron alongside something a bit more robust and a workhorse of the Rebel Alliance.
You then get a set of accessories and gubbins that are going to be handy when it comes to customising your force.

For example, you can dive in and play with Luke Skywalker on the tabletop with this pack. It's nice that these sets come with everything you need to play right out of the box so you and a friend can decide who is going to be the bad guy and have some fun!
The Galactic Empire Squadron Starter Pack offers up another good selection of fighter craft from the Star Wars universe.
Galactic Empire Squadron Starter Pack // X-Wing
This set comes with two of your classic TIE Fighters alongside a TIE Bomber and a TIE Advanced. Much like with the Rebel Alliance set, this offers up a chance to play with some of the biggest characters from the Star Wars movies.

For example, with this set, you get to run the deadly Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced. This gives you the way to play a fun Death Star Trench Run scenario where the Rebels are looking to blast the space station into a billion pieces.

It's nice to see that X-Wing is getting another go-around when it comes to these different sets. Despite being around for a long while, the game still features some fun mechanics and gives you a good way to play out space-based dogfights in the Star Wars universe. I would hope that we're going to be seeing something coming out in the future for the Clone Wars period as well!
Could you be tempted to dive in and play X-Wing with these new Squadron Starter Packs?

I’m not sure dividing a successful kit for 2 players into two single factions will help them sell more. Especially if the price also goes up that hard.
The problem was that while the old Core sets did allow two people to play the game, they really weren’t designed to be split between two people. They only contained one of each book, movent rulers, tokens, cards, and one set of dice. To have all the basics each player needed to buy their own Core set. Plus, while the new sets are more expensive, you are getting more fighters for your faction than you did with the core set. What it would cost to add those to a core set would be more expensive than getting them this way.… Read more »
I will say i am interested in these new packs, assuming and i think im right its 4 ships will all the cards? I have a handful of ships from 1st edition that are similar in contents so if i did pick this up im guessing i could use those with these contents fairly easily. Depends how much they cost?
But both editions were not copatible. I am afraid you wouldn’t be able to use them toghether. That’s exactly why lots of us rage quit from x-wing when they changed versions!
If you have models of the ships included in the sets you’ll probably be able to use them. Agree that others won’t be entirely compatible without a bit of work.
Seems like Atomic Mass Games is having problems making brand new models again… they rebox everything FFG made…
Ah X-Wing Miniatures Game is still around.
Good looking ship’s.
Looks like a good idea, though only having 7 ship cards per box (2 different per ship type) seems a little tight, but at least each one has a loadout card and there are 25 upgrade cards.
Not sure an existing x-wing gamer would go for this, but if they did it for the other five factions, it would be of more interest
