Cities Of Sigmar First Look & Seraphon For Age Of Sigmar!
March 23, 2023 by brennon
Games Workshop were not content to just give us interesting sneak peeks into the grimdark future. They also had a look at the Mortal Realms and Warhammer Age Of Sigmar as well. One of the nicest previews I saw was actually not the Seraphon (although they are cool) but was for the Cities Of Sigmar.

We didn't get much beyond this first tease of the miniatures but I am liking the look. These are the poor mortals of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar that have been given rusty shields, weapons and ill-fitting helmets and sent out into the realms in order to establish new bastions for the God-King.
The miniatures have vibes of the old Empire about them as well as a bit of Bretonnia too. There is a distinct peasant feel to them which I think works really nicely to match the background. We should be seeing more of them in the coming months and an exploration of the different cities sending warriors to fight alongside the Stormcast Eternals.
The Seraphon Spawn!
As well as the forces of Order fighting under Sigmar, we also have the Seraphon and some new miniatures that have been spawned by The Old Ones.
Scar-Veteran On Aggradon // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
A bunch of decidedly bulky additions to the Seraphon range are on the way that replace older miniatures within the range. For example, you can rush around on the back of an Aggradon with the new Scar-Veteran who seems like he could go toe-to-toe with a lot of foes.
The Aggradons can also be taken as a unit with these Lancers stepping in to take on the role of the old Cold One Riders. These big dinosaurs are much beefier than previous offerings and properly showcase= the size and scale of these ancient warriors. You want Saurus to seem badass and this certainly deals with that.

Talking of badass, you've also got some pretty brutal-looking killers in the form of these updated Kroxigor miniatures. They are much nicer than the previous miniatures in the range and I can see a lot of folks wanting to include many of them in their armies.

this Kroxigor kit can also be built as the Kroxigor Warspawned. Whilst regular Kroxigor might be used for the day-to-day heavy-lifting jobs of the Seraphon, the Warspawned are destined only for war and so have developed into some seriously deadly killers!

I really like the new miniatures and, as luck would have it, a lot of them are going to be made available in a new Boxed Set for the Seraphon. This will be coming soon and features a new Slann alongside some of the new cavalry and updated Saurus for the range.

With Contrast Paints in many a hobbyist's collection right now, it seems like it might be a good time to get blending and working on schemes for painting up some fancy new Lizardmen!
The Undead Rise!
As well as the Seraphon, we're also hearing whispers and the rattling of bone as new undead forces rise to serve Grand Alliance Death.
Mortisan Ossifector // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Mortisan Ossifector is a new support unit that you can throw into your Ossiarch Bonereapers armies. This fellow is able to craft and meld bone into different shapes and keep your army running. Need a new monster? Call on the Ossifector!
If you prefer your wet undead as Gerry would say then you can also get a look at the impressive Ivya Volga.
Ivya Volga // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
She is a new Soulblight Gravelords character that goes about her bloodsucking in a different way. Rather than feeding on mere mortals, she prefers monster hunting. With that axe in hand, she ranges the wilds looking for beasts before cutting their heads off and drinking their blood. That would explain her more bestial look! She can also command swarms of bats to flock around her enemies and disrupt their formations before she pounces.
The Roadmap For Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
New Battletomes are on the way for all four factions shown here. We know that we're getting Ossiarch Bonereapers and Soulblight Gravelords soon as well as the summoning of the Seraphon...

Death Battletome: Soulblight Gravelords // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Order Battletome: Seraphon // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
But we should also be getting Cities Of Sigmar as soon as the Autumn of 2023. There are a few more Battletomes in the mix before then as well but it's good to get an idea of when particular books are going to be released.

Yeah, nah. Give me the old Empire troops any day.
The Seraphon look nice but I really like the Cities of Sigmar troops they have shown. Can’t wait to see more
Fab looking figures.
Those are nice human models. I dig the look.
The lizardman are very nice. Minus the feathers. For me, My dinosaurs will always be featherless.
Lizards are ok, humans – meh, you’d get more out of the frostgrave packs
I will get the bad out of the way first which is the cities of simgar models. Too much going on with the armour different bits all over the place none of it making sense. The helms really dont work for me. They are just a mess of bits to paint. Which is a shame. Seraphon models are the complete opposite totally amazing models. Love the new Kroxigors models, the new lizard mounts are great, the scar vet is a wonderful mmodel. they would just be a lot of fun to paint up. Finally the top new death models. I… Read more »
Blimey, the grumpy sods are out in force tonight! New stuff all looks fun..
I think the Cities of Sigmar troops would look better with the addition of bat wings ?. The middle one nearly has them on their helmet.
I don’t know why but those cities of sigmar troops look orcish – not the GW kind but maybe oathmark or LOTR. The thing I always liked about the human factions was how they were basically just modified historicals, which to me made them more sympathetic given what they were up against. But these just feel a little generic.
Absolutely love the scaly boi update though!
ugh, they made the lizardmen more generic and less historical!
