Le Scorpion Masque are working with a pretty wild team of creatives to bring the excellent video game, Dead Cells, to the tabletop. The new board game features work by designers Antoine Bauza, Corentin Lebrat, Ludovic Maublanc and Théo Rivière and allows you to dive into a 1-4 player cooperative dungeon crawler.

Dead Cells The Rogue-Lite Board Game - Scorpion Masque

Dead Cells: The Rogue-Lite Board Game // Scorpion Masque

Based on the "Explore. Kill. Die. Mutate. Repeat" mechanics of Dead Cells, you'll dive into an exploration of an ever-changing castle and their ruthless dungeons as you seek to learn more from each forty-five-minute encounter on the tabletop.

During each dive into the game, you'll explore biomes as you venture deeper into the castle, open up new paths and interesting secrets and find new weapons and powers for you to use in future runs. During that, you'll then have to kill enemies using a set of action cards. Eventually, you'll end up dying and whilst that would normally be a pain in the arse, in Dead Cells, this is part of the game mechanics.

Anything that you gained from a previous run can be used to mutate your character and upgrade yourself, choosing new action cards from three different decks. You can choose to take your character in a variety of different ways, unlocking new abilities and making your next adventure that little bit easier.

Finally, you'll dive back into the game and start a new cooperative adventure. Killing bosses opens up new biomes for you to explore but you can also dive into existing ones to battle stronger foes and get your hands on new items and powers.

This all sounds very cool but it will be interesting to see how this all works in practice. There seems a lot to get your head around here but as long as the basic gameplay loop works well, I could see this being a fun puzzle to try and solve.

Could you be tempted to check out Dead Cells when it lands on Kickstarter?
