NEW Dreadnought & Dark Angels Box Set For Warhammer 40,000
January 27, 2023 by brennon
Some big reveals from Games Workshop for a variety of games in the wake of the big LVO showcase and Warhammer Preview. First up, we're taking a trip into the world of Warhammer 40,000 and seeing what the Space Marines are going to be getting their hands on.

There is a big box landing in the near future featuring the brand-new Dreadnought. This is the new Brutalis Dreadnought (no points for subtlety when it comes to naming) which has been designed as a close combat monster.
Brutalis Dreadnought // Warhammer 40,000
Up until now, the close combat Dreadnought had been the preserve of the Blood Angels but now, every Chapter is going to be able to call on the aid of their ever-living Battle Brothers encased in their sarcophagi. I am making a close combat Space Marine force at this very moment and the Brutalis Dreadnought is swiftly going to be replacing the Redemptor that I had initially envisioned for that force.
If you want to blow things up then you also have the new Desolation Squad which steps into the breach as an almost Primaris-Devastator Squad.
Desolation Squad // Warhammer 40,000
Armed with more missiles than you can shake a stick at, this Desolation Squad is utterly determined to blow things up with both Krak and Frag rounds. I think these look a little bit derpy to me and have a bit too much of that "toy" factor to their design than I had hoped. I'm sure they will do the job but they just seem a bit off to me.
Capping things off, we have a new kit for the Primaris Lieutenant. Don't panic, this one is a bit different. It has been designed to come with a whole host of weapon options allowing you to make a Lieutenant with any of the weapon options available in their profile.

So, you're not going to be stuck when it comes to making your preferred leader in your smaller armies. I quite like the addition of the bionics and the fact that there is a bit more motion in the sculpt, even if he is simply standing still heroically. It should work for customising your force and making it your own.
New Dark Angels Vs Chaos Space Marines Boxed Set
As well as that boxed set, there is also going to be a new one coming out that matches up with the current storyline of Warhammer 40,000. Azrael clashes with Vashtorr in Wrath Of The Soul Forge King.
Wrath Of The Soul Forge King // Warhammer 40,000
This set comes with a contingent of Dark Angels who have been sent to deal with the deadly new Chaos threat that is Vashtorr. It's not quite The Lion that everyone was hoping for but it certainly offers up a neat new set for those seeking to dive into the unfolding narrative behind Arks Of Omen.
Wrath Of The Soul Forge King - Miniatures // Warhammer 40,000
The set comes with the two new plastic miniatures for Vashtorr and Azrael that we've seen before alongside Primaris Space Marines, Deathwing Terminators, Chaos Cultists and some mechanical abominations that Vashtorr has created like the deadly Obliterators.
This certainly points towards the Dark Angels having much more to do with the narrative in Arks Of Omen and I'm sure this will also inspire a lot of folks to dive in and start up new armies. These miniatures will be available separately but this will be your first place to find them.
New Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Tank
Last but not least, we have a release for The Horus Heresy. The Loyalist and Traitor forces are both going to get their hands on a new tank destroyer.
Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Previously a resin kit from Forge World, this is going to be the first chance to get your hand on this machine murdering...err, machine in plastic. It comes with an absolutely brutal array of lasers plus additional side-sponson weapons and is made to crack open enemy vehicles and Titans if you so desire.
A pretty nifty showing for the Space Marines and Forces Of Chaos I'm sure you'll agree. Do you have some favourites?

I don’t know why but the Desolation Squad makes me think of Ghostbusters….
Who ya gonna call?
Guilliman ?
Ooh new big weapon boy’s to out shoot DA Orks.
I see GW have spread the Tactical, Assault and Devastator Space Marine kits across five, maybe six kits now.
Those Primaris are TERRIBLE, I almost cant believe how dumb they look. The dreadnought is nice although still bordering on OTT with too many guns dotted all over the place. The HH tank is nice and I’ll probably pick that up at some point.
Ah new Dreadnought variant. Wrath of the Soul Forge King seems tempting. Especially since it comes with new Azrael miniature.
I found a proper metal dreadnought in my storage. I should paint it as a one-off weekend project. Suggestions for a chapter?
Maybe something a bit more unusual, Salamanders?
Those guns look like a really bad kitbash…or one of those action movie tie-in action figures where they give them the biggest gun ever for no reason.
Why on earth do marines get heavy stubbers now? That feels like a backwards step.
ah and the steaming turd that is Primaris continues to expand and evolve like the cordyceps in Last of Us, I’m not sure if this is just an April Fools idea that’s snowballed out of all proportions or if they’re genuinely dead set on just erasing all 30+ years of lore and background that they’ve built up with the Space Marines. They’re meant to be an elite tactical strike force with multiple “special forces” units that can be equipped and outfitted for whatever the mission requires, so why would you invent an entire line of models that totally erases that… Read more »
