Actually feels quite sad that I started this project almost 2 years ago and it’s not complete. Well, not point wallowing in self pity, best just get on. I thought I would drop a quick update, almost a early new years resolution to get projects done and update them on here more often.

There’s more built than I have shown and there’s also some paint on some!

Flamer Tactical Support Squad

Got this squad fully built tonight. I wanted to make sure the models were appropriately equipped, so the bolt pistols, grenades etc are modelled on them. Also added some ‘trophies of judgement’ to the sergeant.

I also needed to use some filler on the gaps on the studded shoulder pad.

Not much progress in the last month on any of my projects. I’ve gone back to the first unit I put together, before I started this project log I think, to add some details and bases. It’s a support squad unit equipped with flamers. There’s new rules out for Zone Mortalis, which is what I am building this army for. So I need to have a good read and add units, adapt the plan as required. I have also built up a few Primaris marines so I can practice my intended Night Lords paint scheme on them.
I’ve also been working on a Zone Mortalis game board, link to that project is here.

Work has been fairly hectic this week, so haven’t had the energy to get much done. Did complete this guy today though.

Getting there with the building side

The plan for this project was to have it all built before I started painting. I’m nearly there, but I may start to get paint on some infantry before I finish the dreadnoughts and characters. The Terror Squad are proving tricky at the moment as I’m struggling with a couple of the poses. I’ve put the models to one side for now and cracked on with an easier one.

Managed to get the next five breachers off the sprues, clean up, drilled and partly assembled tonight. A very productive evening of hobby work!

These Breachers had been sitting on the desk, barely started for about a month now so I thought it was high time I got them done. It’s slow progress with all the cleaning, drilling and pinning. The newer FW resin is very much better with a better cast and a lot less to clean up.

The shield arm and shoulder pads are just blu-tacked on for now for ease of painting. Five down, five to go.

I also built the new Esoterist Consul model. A simple head swap for something more Night Lords was definitely in order.

Working on some Breacher marines, pinning and blu tak to help sort the poses. It will also be easier to paint them in sub-assemblies.

Weathering Course

Attended a weathering course at the weekend ran by Rob of Medders Miniatures fame. It used the contemptor model as a base to learn different weathering techniques. I chose to paint mine up as Death Guard as I love their weathered look and the contrast of colours looks great.

I’ll definitely be using what I learnt and applying it on my Night Lords

Many a couple of hours hobby so far this week. Working on the Sgt for my Tactical Squad. Got some third party Night Lords bits to add some flayed flesh, was easier to do this than sculpt it from green stuff. I’m time poor at the moment and want to get these built as soon as I can.

Also pretty much finished up the first four members of the Terror Squad. The new Forge World resin cast are much better than the old resin, very little clean up to do. I’ve left some of the weapons and shoulder pads blue tacked on at the moment so I can remove and make painting easier.

Also laying out the final six members for the Terror Squad and what they’re going to be kitted out with.

Prepping for a weathering course

Not Night Lords specific, but I’ve got myself booked on a weathering course with Medders miniatures at the end of March. Really looking forward to learning some new skills. I’ve spent this week prepping the contemptor dreadnought we will use in the course.

Despolier Squad

Nearly finished building these, ordered some Night Lords specific bits which I will add across the force. I’ll wait until I’ve got a few more squads to this stage until I add them. Got a Tac Squad and a Terror Squad nearly finished in the building phase and have also made a start on Sevatar.

Quick update. I’ll look to get some better pictures of the full squad later this week. Got the final Despolier built. Really happy with him and how the whole squad has turned out. I’ve got some extra bits I may add to some models like grenades and pistol holsters, but I’ll look to do this when I’ve got the first few squads mostly built. I want to have some conformity through the army, but not too much. Certainly want to get it all built before I start painting it.

I’ve been working away at building a Night Lords force for Warhammer Horus Heresy. It will start out as a Zone Mortalis Force, so I thought I’d start a project on here to keep track of my work and hopefully motivate me to get it done in a reasonable time frame. Some pics below of some of the work I’ve done. Hopefully lots to follow.
