Steamforged Games Announce Gears Of War: The Card Game
January 9, 2023 by brennon
Steamforged Games has announced that they are going to be working on a new card game for 2023. Gears Of War is going to be revving up and hitting tabletops with a new two-player game based on the hit video game.
Gears Of War: The Card Game // Steamforged Games
This new card game is a story-driven and campaign-style affair. You'll go from scenario to scenario where what happens in one game will have a direct effect on what happens next. As a two-player game, one player will take on the role of the Coalitions Of Ordered Governments (COG) whilst the other will play as the Locust Horde. Famous faces like Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are going to appear alongside the likes of Uzil Raam for the Locust.

Wins and losses from each scenario will dictate what gets added or removed from your deck in subsequent games and whilst we don't know much more about the game now, it does seem like a fun way to play out a campaign game. It's certainly neat to see Steamforged producing a game of this style without masses of miniatures and other components.
Additional information is coming down the pipeline for this new card game and it will be interesting to see how it plays! I know a lot of folks would quite like Steamforged to bring back the Fantasy Flight Games board game too. I doubt we'll see that but maybe we can cross our fingers?
Will you be taking a look at this?

Mmm gears of war card’s ?
Meh.
Uhm…. I don’t know. That game is really “shoot anything that moves”. How does that translate to a cardgame? oO
Interesting to me that they seem to be going all the way back to the first Gears of War with Raam being included. I do wonder how the narrative campaign portion will work though. GoW has always been one of those series where the games are all shooty-shooty-bang-bang and the detailed stories are confined to the novels which have been typically read by series grognards like me so the popular understanding is very thin. Though, if they can beat the board game where we ended in an infinite loop of emergence holes spawning faster than grenades in the tutorial mission…… Read more »
I have a soft spot for the setting as it was my go too shooter back in the day and I liked the decayed elegance of the world. I would be interested if a miniatures game was developed.
The timing is strange, honestly. It feels like the IP equivalent of finding something in the bargain bin. Even my friends who were huge Gears fans haven’t talked about the series in years.
Just sitting here thinking about a gears of war skirmish game… With the right rules i buy that day one…
