About the Project
So this is my log to 2023, rather than run different projects for each of my builds this year I'm going to put it all together in one place. The aim will be to post at least once a week with an update on what I've done this week, and my Pile of [shame/opportunity/grey]* golf score. * delete as per your preference.

Week 1 - January 7th
Miniatures Completed: 13
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Games Played: 1
The first week of 2023 allowed me to finish off another unit of Dweghom Hold Warriors that I started just before Christmas. I purchased these assembled, minus the shields, on ebay – the down side was that the person didn’t include the shields and used some of the Ballistae arms as part of the construction. I also finished off my Flamecaster.
Alongside painted the 13 Dweghom of mine, I also completed 2 of my son’s Household Knights, they aren’t counted above as they aren’t mine.
I’ve managed to play one game this year which was a 750 point game of 40K against my son, a Primaris on Primaris game. This was the first one that I lost to my son.
Week 2 - January 16th
Miniatures Completed: 15
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Games Played: 1
Well the second week of the year was a little quiet, I managed to get some painting done on Friday night, during our club Zoom call, but only finished 2. Din Djarin and one of the two Grogus you get in the box has been finished. I have 4 Dweghom Wardens ready for basing. Whilst sorting out the Wardens and starting on the next 4 I picked up my eldests Mercenary Crossbowmen and decided to make them pop a little bit more on the table. The colour scheme is his, apart from the blue trim addition which has come from the household knights I painted for him (see the previous entry).
Week 10 - March 4th
I’ve been rubbish some real life, some not feeling well and an equal dose of not feeling like it.
Miniatures Completed: 31
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Miniatures Purchased: 54
Golf Score: 23
Games Played: 7
Well it has been a while since I posted last, and I therefore need to get on with things. I managed to finish painted a lot of Dweghom ready for Cavalier in Tonbridge, but then my mother-in-law and part of the family decided to come over to see us on that same weekend! The Dweghom went to the show, but I didn’t. Unfortunately, I hadn’t got all of the Dweghom done with a unit of Initaties and a unit of Ballistae still to be completed.
For our next show game, at Broadside, we are aiming to return to the world of Rokugan and the Legend of the Five Rings, although possibly using OnePageRules. As such I wanted to bulk out my Phoenix Clan army, the original line is now out of production, but I found one facebook a very nice man who had a batch of Phoenix that he was looking to sell. One package with lots of miniatures in hence sailed from New Zealand and arrived today.
I have managed to get some gaming in since the last post mostly against my own boys who have got into 40K.
Week 11 - March 12th
I didn’t get round to posting this due to work commitments, it was reporting writing time of year.
Miniatures Completed: 33
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Miniatures Purchased: 54
Golf Score: 21
Games Played: 7
I cracked on with the Dweghom Iniaties over the weekend and got the spearmen completed and on the front rank I have painted all of the bodies, just need to add the very large shields, so they having now been primed.
I also primed and preped the next load of figures as I go back to painting my old Phoenix army, I purchased some more figures and they are on the entry for Week 10. I have decided to give this Slapchop stuff a go with them to get them on the table quick, so a spray of AP Black, a heavy drybrush of Scale 75 Ice Charm (which is grey) and then a light dry brush of AP White. We’ll see how they come out in the next entry.
Week 12 - March 19th
Progress is being made, but nothing has been finished off this week.
Miniatures Completed: 33
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Miniatures Purchased: 54
Golf Score: 21
Games Played: 7
The shields for the initiates have been painted, so I now need to find time to pin them to the hands of the bodies so they hold up. I’ve been making progress on the Phoenix Clan Samurai and the slap chop method has held up well. The clothing is painted Bad Moon Yellow, the armour is Baal Red, with the skin being Gulliman Flesh. The first batch of 6 are nearly ready just need some basing done, whilst my son has decided he wants to help me out so has started on the next batch of 6 archers.
Rising From the Ashes
@sundancer was right I shouldn’t have just turned this project log into my Spring Clean Hobby Challenge so I’ve made a new one that I’ll link to from here going forward.
Miniatures Completed: 52
Miniatures Assembled: 0
Miniatures Purchased: 54
Golf Score: +2

A great round of finished miniatures this week has made my Golf drop to nearly 0. I’ve managed to complete all of the Dweghom Initiates along with 6 Samurai and 6 Archers for the Phoenix army, pictures in the other project (https://www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1809532/)
The Dweghom are pictured below and are possibly the easiest unit to line up for the army I have seen.

I cracked on with some more Phoenix this week and you can look at the progress in the other Project log: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1810451/
I did manage to go gaming last night to our normal Friday Night Gaming where I played a game of Conquest: Last Argument of Kings against a new player to the game. We had some fun moment, including a Mountain Jontar getting attached by a unit of Dragonslayers who finished him off in one turn. On the flip side the Ice Giant destroyed most of a unit of Hold Thanes and the Hold Reagh who was with them. After playing only 4 rounds (the clock was against us) the score was 3-3.
Week 14 - 10th April
More progress on the Phoenix this week and a trip.
Miniatures Completed: 74

We spent the Easter weekend in Nottingham, for a wedding, which meant that we got to visit some wargaming heaven. A tour of Warlord Games, well worth it if you are in the area (thanks to Aussie Pete and the Eds), it gave me a new appreciation of the new Siocast material they are using. Lunch in Bugman’s and then time to look round the Warhammer World Exhibitions. The boys then insisted on purchasing a couple of model in the store, so they have been busy assembling this morning.
I have also finally got round to starting on what should have been the shop anniversary challenge for Ashford and started on my White Consul (I’ve always avoided white armour so a chance to try something new). I started with Wraithbone spray primer and then a wash of Soulbright Grey and then I have drybrushed AP Matt White.
Week 15 - 16th April
More progress on the Phoenix this week.
Miniatures Completed: 92
Miniatures Assembled: 16
Miniatures Purchased: 55
Golf Score: -37
Games Played: 9
The details of the Phoenix can be found here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1812973/
I’ve finished off my White Consuls Intercessor this week as well. I edge highlighted the armour with Pure White, along with a few highlights on raised panels. The gold trim was painted GW Retributor Armour, then washed with Gulliman Flash Contrast and the highlighted with Retributor Armour. The body suit was painted Contract Black Templar as was the gun. Shoulder trim was in P3 Iosan Green and the iconography is AP Voidshield Blue. This is my best attempt at freehand work on the chapter icon, I’m not an artist by any stretch but I’m happy with my work.
Week 19 - 14th May
Whoops missed a few weeks.
Miniatures Completed: 130
Miniatures Assembled: 47
Miniatures Purchased: 93
Golf Score: -37

The latest update on the Phoenix can be found here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1817982/
I picked up a Dweghom Warband via a friend of mine who works for a local store that sells second hand models, so more Hold Ballistae, Hold Thanes, plus another Hold Raegh and Tempered Steelshaper – none of which have been assembled.
5th August
Well I really haven’t updated this thread in a long time.
Miniatures Completed: 158
Miniatures Assembled: 61
Miniatures Purchased: 150
Golf Score: -8
Games Played: 11
I’ve got a little behind on this and need to get more figures painted. The Miniatures Purchased includes 48 X-Wing miniatures, these are obviously pre-paints so don’t need painting, but I haven’t counted them as having been painted as I haven’t done anything to them. Hence my Golf score is a lot lower than it probably should be.
27th August
Not sure why I planned to post weekly on this project log I haven’t managed it, anyway the summer holidays are coming to an end so a return to normality is just round the corner.
Miniatures Completed: 163
Miniatures Assembled: 65
Miniatures Purchased: 158
Golf Score: -5

I’ve spent the summer working on and off on the Wolves of Caliban, I have finally got round to get decals for the chapter icon and I have now put the icon on the shoulder of all the marines, there are a couple of vehicles still to be worked on.
I’ve also painted up my Cataphractii Terminators in Dark Angels heresey era colours – these will be part of the 1st Company of the Wolves of Caliban, planned long before GW made it popular to be Redeemed.
You can ready about this update here.
Whoops there goes 2023
So much for producing a weekly project log, good intentions and all that. This is why I stopped making New Year Resolutions.
Still here is 2023 in review from me.
Final Golf score sits at -29
Over the course of the year I have painted 176 miniatures and purchased 147.
Of those 110 of them were Clan Wars Phoenix, which means I haven’t got a lot done in the second half of the year. The rest come down to three game systems, Conquest, Star Wars Legion and 40k.
I’ve put together only 72 miniatures this year, half of what I built in 2022, although the Clan Wars miniatures are mostly one piece metal, where as 2022 conisted of large amounts of Conquest plastics.
In terms of games I’ve only managed 18 this year, of which I’ve only won 6. That figure was boosted by the only tournament I played in this year which was run by my good friend Paul. This was an Ironman Conquest tournament, a fun concept where you turn up and play a different army each game, all the armies of an 8 man tournament were provided by Paul! My end result of Played 3, Won 2 was satisfying.
Still that was 2023, now on to 2024.
That’s all for this project log folks!
