Ironjawz Army by WillandHeart

We dive back into Community Spotlight with gusto for 2023 and have a look at this impressive army of greenskins that has come from willandheart. They have recently put together some impressive galleries but the one we're focusing on here showcases an awesome Ironjawz army.

These miniatures are seriously stylish and I like the way that you've got a bunch of dark colours that are then contrasted by super bright and poppy colours. It gives the Orruks a very dynamic look and your eye is drawn to all of the important details. That namely means, faces, tusks, teeth and weapons.

There is a good mix of different miniatures in this army and I really like the properly stark highlighting that you see present on the armour panels. It shows off the beaten designs really well and makes the miniatures feel larger than life. The blood has been done nicely and it isn't overdone and the glowing portions of the armour are very World Of Warcraft.

It is well worth diving deeper into the collection on the link above to see more of the miniatures that they have been working on. I was particularly drawn to the bright blue fur that you see here on the Gore-gruntas. It makes them feel super "Mortal Realms" and I think it, again, makes things stand out, especially with all of that armour. An impressive army and a good start to the year.

The Nottingham Cheese Riot by denzien

Next up, we're having a look at something a bit quirky. denzien works with a bunch of folks who don't have a particular background in wargaming. But, he wanted to put on a fun scenario for them over the Christmas period and The Nottingham Cheese Riot is something that is talked about quite a lot within their circles!

This led them down an interesting path where they had to work out the best rules to use when putting together a fun scenario that would be easily played by newcomers. This turned into quite the impressive project where a bunch of miniatures got painted up to match the setting and there was even a little bit of rules creation too!

The game was played out during a social event and there is a full breakdown of how it all went over on the project link. I really like that everyone also had plenty of cheese and port on hand to eat whilst they were diving into the gaming.

Of particular note, you should have a look at the different event cards that were made by denzien for the game. They are really fun and have excellent drawings on them which properly convey the mood.

The locals rioted at the soaring price of cheese and a mayor was knocked into the mud by rolling cheese wheels. The Dragoons were even called in when things got a little bit out of hand! It is well worth learning more about this moment in history and reading through the game and how it all played out.

Firefight Forge Fathers by warbossd

Last but not least, we have a look at some Forge Fathers that were painted up by warbossd for use in Firefight. This is the first army for the game and they put it together super quickly!

A breakdown of the build process and the painting of all of the miniatures is presented as part of the project. What caught my eye here was the idea of getting stuff to the tabletop quickly. I think they said that around 100 hours were spent on bringing this to life which is quite awesome and it's good that an army can be taken from sprue to tabletop in good time.

I have been thinking about this process as well over the last while and have been attempting to do the same with a new army of my own for this year. I think there is something satisfying about getting all of that paint down and saying "this is done" over a short time frame.

I really like the metallics and therefore the metallic blues, reds, greens and such that you get with this army. I think it works super well for the Forge Fathers and they will look fantastic when all bundled together on the tabletop, battling against their foes in Firefight.
