About the Project

Finally decided to launch myself at this game! After passing on this game for many reasons (too much metal miniatures, not enough variety, etc) i decided the Battle of Osgiliath was going to be it! Plus the fact that GW finally launched Warhost Boxes for many factions (already ordered Rohan:) ). I hope i can prime a few minis during winter here, with a window open so i can paint some of them before sprring...

This Project is Active

A big one and an ugly one!

Should’ve posted this awhile ago because i finished assembling my Mordor Troll  a few weeks ago…  But at least i was able to assemble both version of Gothmog

The version from the box, suited for the scenariosThe version from the box, suited for the scenarios

The good thing about the the plastic troll kit, is that you don’t really need to glue the arms, as they come with pegs!  So i assembled all the options available, except for the drums, because they also come with pegs but, it fits on the belly…  and if you put the armor on the troll, you can’t use the drums without some work, wich i decided against since i plan on getting a few more trolls anyway!

some of the pegs are a bit loose on the troll but, some temporary blue gum will do the trick!some of the pegs are a bit loose on the troll but, some temporary blue gum will do the trick!

As for Gothmog, Lieutenant of Sauron, they were pretty easy to get togheter, save for the shield you can glue on his back on foot and the shield, a mace and/or sword on the warg.  They don’t have a specific spots to stick, except a bit of fur/something on the shield that make it “easier” to glue!  I wish i had taken a picture before trying, the firts time!  I suggest to do some dry-fitting!

Oops!  Just noticed that technicaly his wargear his Heavy Armor and sword!  With options for his Warg and a shield.  So why does the kit comes with a sword a mace plus shield?  Anyway not to bad!

I’m now moving on with the Morannon Commanders i got last week and with Farmarir and his two rangers buddies!

See you guys next update

Armies of Middle-Earth and Morannon Commanders were on my dorestep yesterday!  Strangely enough, i placed this order after my Rohan Battlehost and commanders!  That order is still “pending”…

Armies of Middle-Earth is a awesome looking army book for all the factions of Middle-Earth!  You also get 11 scenarios too, covering all the periods of the saga, from the Last Alliance, to The Battle of Bywater.

As for the Commanders, they do require some cleaning!

Lots of little bits to remove on the minis themselves, along with the injection points...Lots of little bits to remove on the minis themselves, along with the injection points...

I finished assembling the Morannon orcs earlier today but, i ran out of magnets!  So the two on the right will be magnetised next week.  I managed to find one  magnets  pack at my FLGS (they have 4 stores in the regions so a plus for me!).  I wanted to buy some bulk on a store i know in the US but, à 30-40$ for shipping i decided against it…  Also, i found two basing bits stuck under the big pieces!

I found these 3 lovely “not Dark Riders” from Reaper Miniatures Bones 5 kickstarter in my pile of shame and decided to use them, since the Dark Riders from GW are still metal…  Strangely enough, there still not on retail!  The bases are necessary for them to stand without to much fuss so in a lazy move, decided to leave them as is and not use my Temple Basing bits…

On to the Mordor Troll next!

Warriors of Minas Tirith and rangers assembled!

My Warriors of Minas Tirith and rangers are fully assembled and magnetized!  I’m keeping Faramir, Damrod and Madril for last…  I’m using metal cookie boxes to store and move around my armies these days, at least, as long as i can localy find some good magnets (very hard in the last few months!)  I reckon the entire content of the BoO will fit into 1 box, except the scenery pieces…

Warriors of Minas Tirith and rangers assembled!

I also found a nice box of Gamergrass basing bits : Temple in my collection and thought they would be great basing!  Only problem is that there’s a limited amount of them that fits on 25mm bases (and the kit is expensive too)!  Like 4 without to much fiddling…  But some great pieces will do great for the Troll’s base and Gothmog on his warg!

Keeping 1 small bit for an orc, but you can see the rest i'll have for the rest of the armies!Keeping 1 small bit for an orc, but you can see the rest i'll have for the rest of the armies!

I mentionned in my first post that there aren’t any profiles for the amies of Middle Earth in the core book but, we do have them for all the model in the box with this neat 16 pages Scenario softcover Book.

There’s 4 scenarios in this book as well as the profiles for the units and a nice Gameplay summary on the back, helping you move along your game!  I’ll be photocopying this for when i introduce a few friends to this game!

Now:  Time to assemble the Morannon Orcs!

Here we have the mighty box for the Battle of Osgiliath!

Lots of plastics!Lots of plastics!

It’s been years since i’ve seen the original ruins but, these appear to be thicker, more robust!  The fact that we have 4 ruins in the box is cool, it will help to set the tone, still, i might need 1 or 2 more (either these or 3rd party to add variety). The plastic troll is an improvement over the metal ones back in the day (and a pain to glue, having had to help a young customer when i was working at an FLGS back when the game started…).  I think i’ll go with the look from the box and i’ll decide when i go for another one between another weapon or the drums!

Great looking book!Great looking book!

As usual, the books by GW are awesome!  Some pictures from the movie, all the factions are presented like in the picture above.  I would’ve like to see  stat profiles for the armies like other core book rules but, i’ll have to get the Armies of the Lord of the Rings book to orient my next faction after i receive and assemble my Rohan Warhost some time next week.  I’ll be going for an evil faction for sure!
