Yep,
My copy has just arrived, and I am over the moon with it. I am currently intoxicating myself with the new book smell. After the haziness fades, I will dive into it. I have not been this stoked for a ruleset since Silver Bayonet (one of the most enjoyable settings I have ever played)!
I will be using this for my Isorians and my two 15mm sci-fi armies which I will base in the vein of ‘Flames of War’, but in space!
Just thought I share my inebriation and joy with the community. Expect to see a project anytime within the next decade.
Adios.
I promise ?.
I’ll have to give those rules a look see.
Will these be an alternative to 40k rules or Kill Team?
I’m sold! ………….. (that @avernos really is a good salesman) ??
I ordered a copy and it should be here by Tuesday next week. (happy Christmas to ME)
While I was ordering it I also saw…….
“Pulp!: Skirmish Adventure Wargaming (Osprey Wargames)” I do love some Pulp Goodness.
(I ordered it as well)
Now my tree will have two gifts under it!
Thanks to @nightrunner for bringing his to my attention! Cheers ?
And who says Christmas shopping is tiring?
@templar007 – You’re welcome.
I have been playtesting the game a lot now. (In fact the past 5 months I have just been wargaming and not painting a all – that has got to change). Like all Rampant games, the beauty is that you can focus of the narrative or the scenario, without getting bogged down in rules and minutiae of ‘how this weapon works or how that ability functions‘. I find that very liberating.
I also like how the game works in 15mm scale with troops based in the same way as ‘Flames of War’, with every base having 1 strength point. I even use tanks the same way, employing 5 tanks with 1 strength point each.
My only gripe with the game is that the strength points are based on multiples of 5 instead 6 like Lion and Dragon Rampant. This makes it a bit awkward to create elite/Support/vehicle units with 2 strength points for each model (since the unit only has 5 strength points). With Heavy or Light troops, you can get around it by doubling the strength points as per the rules.
After a few games we have found two simple ways to address this. The first is just playing with multiples of six. Point wise, this change doesn’t seem to affect the game in any significant way at all. The second option is to pay 1 extra point, and increase the strength points of elite/Support/vehicle units to 6 strength points. The second option is my preferred way.
All in all, this is a great little ruleset, and I intend to used it for other systems like Star Wars Legion and ‘old school’ 40K.
Let me know what you think of the game after playing it.
Well I received my copy of ‘Xenos Rampant’ today one day ahead of schedule.
Santa Amazon must have decided I was a really good boy this year!
Looks good so far. It’ll be hard to force myself to wrap it up and put under the tree to unwrap on Christmas day.
Maybe I’ll just wrap an empty box……..?…………with a note from me to me.
