Free League Publishing has announced a new roleplaying game set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world filled with shambling walkers. The Walking Dead Universe Roleplaying Game is coming soon.

The Walking Dead is based on the Year Zero Engine that has served Free League well over the last few years. There are new spins on those core mechanics in the mix and it will be interesting to see exactly what those are. As with The Walking Dead itself, the roleplaying game is going to be focused on not just butchering walkers. It's about survival and trying to make sure that you retain some of that humanity that is slowly ebbing away.

The idea is that the game is about playing out that drama that unfolds between desperate people. It has been designed so that when you sit down to play, each play session at the tabletop should feel like an episode of The Walking Dead.

Sessions can be spent searching for supplies and testing your survival skills or in a heated debate between survivors over what to do next. There are plenty of post-apocalyptic zombie-based roleplaying games out there so it will be interesting to see what the Year Zero engine and the various teams working on this can do to make it feel unique in the roleplaying space.

Free League Publishing rarely "miss" when it comes to their roleplaying games and so it will be intriguing to see where they take this.
