Perry Miniatures has armed their Saxon armies of 1806-09 with some big new cannons. Who would have thought that there were so many different ways to shoot lead across the battlefield and smash lines of infantry apart?

4 Pounder - Perry Miniatures

There are a couple of different varieties for you to choose from when arming your Saxon army currently. You can go with the smaller 4 Pounder and work your way up through to the 6/8 Pounder and the 12 Pounder.

According to the folks at Perry Miniatures, the Saxons had a different gun drill compared to other nations of the period. The rammer would end up being on the right of the gun with the loader on the left. I guess whatever works right! Additionally, the basic 4 Pounder could fup up forty-five degrees allowing it to be used for rapid fire with no need for a rammer to charge the piece.

As well as the actual base cannon sets, you can also buy yourself some crews to go alongside the guns.

You might fancy the 4 Pounder Crew here or you could go down the route of snapping up a set of crew either Firing their cannons or Loading them.

As always, the sets that we're seeing from Perry Miniatures look fantastic. The detail on the guns from NR look fantastic and I love the crews with all the character sculpted into them. I am always a fan of artillery crews, especially for this black powder period. It enables you to do something a bit different from the rank and file and work on some vignette/diorama pieces instead.
