Community Spotlight: The Wild West, Jensen’s Bust & Wonderful Flintloque Miniatures
November 2, 2022 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Wild West Terrain by taochi
We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at some 3D Printing and painting that taochi has been doing. This gives us a wonderful introduction to Dude City which is going to be the backdrop to a lot of Wild West showdowns on the tabletop.
The terrain pieces that you see here have come from the likes of Printable Scenery and Digital Taxidermy (links in the project link above!). They look fantastic and it seems like all of the core Wild West buildings have been covered. That means Saloons, Banks, Sheriff's Offices and more.
The Bank was particularly impressive and I love the fact that you've got lots of different layers to play with when it comes to the terrain. You can have gunfighters battling it out on the porch or up on the top of that balcony. One thing that is nice to note is how taochi has painted these up but also added lots of little details as well. The wanted posters are a good shout!
One of the nice things about this terrain is that it has lots of little sneaky surprises for those who want to go poking around. You can't see it here but if you go over to the project page, you'll see the interior of the General Store which has lots of paraphernalia on the walls. So, you've got a lot of different ways to play out your games on the inside of buildings as well as the outside. A big bonus for those who like their skirmish wargames.
Adam Jensen Bust by danlee
Next up, danlee is ticking off more from the Hobby Bingo list for 2022. The attention has shifted to this absolutely amazing Adam Jensen Bust which looks bloomin' amazing.
The bust came from ThingyVerse and showcases the main character from the Deus Ex games. What I like about bust painting is that it makes you think about painting in a different way. The surface areas are much bigger so you have to pay more attention to details, highlighting, shading and the use of colour. I think that danlee has done a great job.
It's always nice seeing someone paint something a bit different and this fits the bill. I loved the attention on the skin for the face and the way the hair has been painted. The bust has a nice "comic book" look to it and all of the colours really pop.
So, if you're interested in painting up a bust then it might be worth having a look at what danlee has done and following some of their tips and tricks for bringing your own busts to life. I think the look of that combat armour would be great to translate onto smaller miniatures for one!
Flintloque Miniatures by artemis5150
Last but not least, we have some work on a Fantasy realm by artemis5150. Here, we're exploring the world of Flintloque from Alternative Armies which mixes the Napoleonic and the black powder with Fantasy races.
What drew me to this particular project was the fact that we don't often see the Flintloque range painted up. When we do, it is often just the older studio paint jobs! So, seeing some of the Flintloque range painted up in a more modern style really shows off the awesome miniatures available from Alternative Armies.
The painting here focuses in on the Ferach Elves and Captain Preserovitch's Savant Zombies which look awesome. I like the idea of a more martial and well-ordered zombie battling on the tabletop rather than your classic shambler.
This is what you get inside the Flintloque: Escape The Dark Tsar Starter Set (plus a little bit more) with the two forces, a core rulebook and ways to start playing out your first encounters on the tabletop. The model range looks grand and it's one that I hope more people will take a closer look at now they've seen these painted miniatures!

Thanks for the golden button guys ?
Alternative Armies have 20% off across their store until December as part is f their Winter Sale. Never a better time to grab this set or any of the other beautiful models they have.
Well deserved mention for Danlee there, it’s not often we see a bust appear, and Danlee has done a great job with a “comic book” style that fits the bust absolutely perfectly 🙂
Crikey, that bust is cracking work. Great to see some flintloque looking superb too. Well done everyone ?
