Born to be Wild
Not quite as famous for this week’s post, but the TV series Tour of Duty was something I picked up on DVD a good few years ago, much like some of these helicopters. There is a scene from the first episode of season 2 of the helicopters swooping in.
I cracked on on Friday evening, with adding the decals. Things would have gone much smoother if I’d used them the 15+ years ago they were printed. As it was several just didn’t want to separate from the backing paper and a couple split. Anyway I put them on and gave them a coat of Vallejo Matt Varnish with a brush. There was some weathering completed with Vietnam Earth pigment.
This photo is pre-Anti-shine varnish.
The shark teeth stencil was for hard for me too. 2 just broke by age. My trick was to cut them in advance in 5 pieces and them assembling them on the model piece by piece. Again decal softener and decal fix. Any gaps i filled with red and white paint and at the end matt varnish and gloss varnish on the glass pieces.
ToD had possibly the greatest intro in the history of television.
Lovely work on the whirlybirds
