Games Workshop's Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is returning to their webstore this weekend with pre-orders going live for the core game and the recently announced expansion, Nightwars.

Despite the rocky time spent trying to get this game to tabletops over the last few years, Cursed City is certainly fun. I have had a bunch of fun playing the game and whilst it's a little bit wild at times getting your head around everything that's going on, the core gameplay loop is solid. My friends and I had a neat time running around killing zombies and completing quests, all whilst seeing the city of Ulfenkarn change as we altered its fate.
Did we complete it? No. But, it is still sat there on the shelf ready to go and I really enjoyed the process of painting all of the miniatures in the set as well. They are all sitting snug in some lovely custom foam now.
If you missed out the first time, the core game will be available to order this weekend alongside the Nightwars expansion.

The Nightwars expansion takes place after the events of the core game story. Here, your heroes will be dealing with the vampires that have slipped into the power vacuum left by the monstrous Radukar. In saying that, he is still waiting in the shadows seeking to get some revenge.
You do not get miniatures in this set, just the cardboard. You will then have to buy the miniatures for the various villains and creatures separately but they should all be readily available as part of the Soulblight Gravelords range. It certainly highlights the fact that they were meant to pop up in Cursed City a while back if there hadn't been so many delays.
This should provide you with some new additional quests and challenges to undertake in Ulfenkarn if you've already managed to best Radukar and send him packing!
Are you tempted by this?

In the US, $50 for the expansion and then at least $150 to get the miniatures to match the cards in the expansion. Nope, I will pass. Everyone can make all the excuses they want but this is simply a stupidly done expansion. $50 for card board where you can find hundreds of full games for that price.
It does take some brass balls for a noted minis company to start cranking out these mini-less expansions, then expect you to chase down their overpriced minis elsewhere. Shocks me that people still support them. And Cursed City as a game isn’t even that good, certainly a step down from Blackstone Fortress. THUMBS DOWN ALL AROUND.
Immensely stupid decision to release the expansion without the minis. It will look like a huge money grab (and frankly, it is.) and will do GW zero favours.
Even for GW this seems like short sighted money crab and that does say something.
I want to see a short sighted “Money crab” now.
The looks great but I’ll stick with D&D an HeroQuest for dungeon delving. May get some of the figures down the line.
Heroquest, Massive Darkness (1+2 + Zombicide Black Plague & Green Horde cross-over), 1994 Warhammer Quest, D&D etc for me. 🙂
That is a ridiculous price-point, even with discounts this looks to be in the 150 Euro range for the expansion in total.
Cursed City is pretty much dead to me now. glad I did not buy the Basegame.
So many great alternatives in Dungeon Crawling, I can’t understand who the heck would sign off on this at GW HQ…
Definitely a buy for me. I already have a couple of the Vampire minis so I’m one of the people the box suits.
Also glad to see the novel finally getting a release in paperback, the hardback sold out quickly.
I want to get to grips with the setting as once I (eventually) get the AoS RPG from C7 on the table, Ulfenkarn is somewhere I definitely want my group going.
Its like going to a car dealer to buy a new car, but it does not come with wheels !
I suspect that the intention was to release it with minis but the production problems they had meant that the minis were just released on their own instead. Now the game is back they are doing the expansion without minis. Although the fell bats being required also puts this theory in some doubt.
