Trotting Mongolian Cavalry Troop For Warlord’s Bolt Action: Korea!

Some interesting new releases popped up over the last few days for Bolt Action: Korea from Warlord Games. Leading the way is a rather fascinating unit, the Mongolian Cavalry Troop!

These metal miniatures represent Mongolian Cavalry that can be used in Bolt Action Soviet and Chinese armies during World War II and also in Chinese PVA forces when playing Bolt Action: Korea.

They were lightly equipped and would often just carry a bolt-action rifle and sabre. Born to life in the saddles, they were very hardy and adept at their jobs and could be relied upon to do what was needed once the fighting started. You could use them as a quick way of rushing across the tabletop and securing important objectives.
Following on from the Mongolians, we also have a set of Chinese PVA soldiers that have been assembled into an SMG Squad.

There was value to a mass assault armed with submachine guns. As well as being used to lead attacks, squads like these would also be used as scouts and security when marching on the road. Most often they would have been issued with the PPSh and the US Thompson that was left over from World War II.
These new releases are a small but interesting selection of releases for the Korean War period. You could certainly fill some gaps in a Chinese force with these new metal sets.

P.V.A. that explains their sticky situations. did they not have some black prince’s in the Korean war. Fab looking figures.
I’m really not convinced by the sculpting on these, rather poor in my view. The poses arand facial expressions are a bit odd.
The cavalry seem the worse, the horses are just odd (though i understand they are not you usual horses) and the riders poses are poor, reusing the same sculpts with weapon swaps.
Sadly its a pass on these from me.
With you on this one, the sculpting quality at Warlord seems to has declined overall from Warlord (while their prices have skyrocketed up by about a third). They really need to either slow down new releases to raise the quality, or hire new sculptors (because currently they aren’t hitting the mark). Those “horses” I presume are supposed to be ponies, but they look simply awful in the sculptors attempts to pose them 🙁
