Warhammer Quest: Cursed City Expansion Revealed – Nightwars
September 2, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has today announced the first of their expansions for the mysteriously "on and off" board game, Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. Nightwars is on the way soon where you'll be dealing with three new vampiric foes.

Nightwars picks up in the aftermath of the core game's storyline. With a certain vampire ousted from his roost, three new vampires have made a home within the walls of Ulfenkarn and your hardy band of adventurers has been sent to deal with them.
Annika, The Thirsting Blade // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Kritza, The Rat Prince // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Who would have thought that Vampires like Annika and Kritza could appear in Warhammer Quest? Well, these are two of the undead nobles that you'll have to fight against as the streets become flooded with the undead once more.
You will, as before, need to disable their networks and kill their lieutenants before eventually heading off on a mission to wipe them out for good. You'll also find time to run into Carmilla DuSang along the way, another of the characters from the initial release for the Soulblight Gravelords.

Interestingly, this new Nightwars expansion will NOT come with any miniatures. Instead, you'll have to buy the three characters above separately (or they might already be in your collection) alongside a set of Fell Bats and also Radukar The Beast. Hint, hint...he wasn't quite dead when you last saw him off.
To help in battling these new vampires, the set will come with upgrades for player characters as well in the form of Elite classes with new abilities.

Have you played through all of Cursed City and are you looking for a new challenge? Do you already have these miniatures and will this just be a bit of icing on the cake? It's certainly good to know that Warhammer Quest: Cursed City isn't dead!
Will you be snapping this up?

This is good news. I said when the models came out they where suppose to be for an Cursed City Expansion. It is good to see they have released it without the models because I have them already. I know Cursed City get a lot of flack due to the production problems but it is a good game, the minis are great well worth the price in my view.
I did pick up Cursed City during the initial release and have built everything… but not painted it. Given I’ve not had chance to plat Cursed City I won’t be buying the expansion… especially if the minis are an additional expense and possibly hard to get hold of. Pity they didn’t use the minis from Underworlds Crimson Court as I already have those. Although GW do some good minis… the hard plastic is so brittle and they love their delicate sculpts that are so easy to break. Doesn’t help that you can’t store them in the box. If you’re doing… Read more »
I mean none of the Soulblight models they’ve listed are difficult to get ahold of that I am aware of – they are all part of the general release of the faction. And the way this expansion appears to be structured you don’t need all three initially so you can dip in and pick them up gradually. As to the Crimson Court, I would not be surprised to see them get rules for Cursed City in White Dwarf now that the expansions are beginning to be released….
A boardgame expansion without the models necessary to play the boardgame… by a company that specifically makes the models? Alrighty then, glad I didn’t buy into this one when it was released.
yeah .. it is weird.
but then this was also the boardgame that magically got a limited release when people were expecting it to be available.
So … not exactly one of GW’s best management and product planning decisions.
It does stink of a “Batteries sold separately” vibe hey.
They could at least provide standees as placeholder
fantastic figures to play with.
to continue you my ongoing reputation as a shill for GW…. Not sure they could have won this, if they had released the expansion with what were clearly minis originally planned to be in it anyway, people would complain “These aren’t new minis, what a rip off” those people who already bought the minis when they were released would have complained “I wanted the expansion set but I don’t want to buy it now because I already own the minis”. All in all a game and a project that was massively impacted my unforeseen delays and issues outside of GW’s… Read more »
I can’t believe the number of people claiming that a separate purchase of £120 of minis for a £40 expansion of a £125 board game is ‘a good idea’!
At this point, is there any argument that GW shouldn’t be classified as a religious cult?
On the plus side, those unsold boxes from the relaunch will be going for a song, so I might actually get myself an SBG warband for cheap…
You dont need to purchase the game, the minis, or anything else.
I assume they have counters or something you can use which can be replaced with the minis if you want. While I am sure the original plan would have been an expansion with them in because of the COVID / shipping issue they ended up releasing the models which where made in the UK first.
exactly.
They couldn’t win either way.
Alternatively they could have just sat on the models for a year on the off chance that all external issues got resolved and they were able to release everything together as originally planned.
I remember a time when people used to play RPG’s without miniatures and it was all just within ones imagination!
