Community Spotlight: Heavy Gear, Mighty Vikings & Colourful Aztecs
August 31, 2022 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Heavy Gear by xaoseac1984
We start off this week's Community Spotlight with an exploration of the awesome that xaoseac1984 has been working on. This is an ace set of Heavy Gear miniatures that look super amazing!
The Northern Forces and more are coming together to be used for all manner of demo games and more. I absolutely love seeing the yellow being front and centre here and the ace black chevrons. The grey-silver weapons are then great and work really nicely as a contrast to the yellow. You then get those hits of red to set everything off.
As you can see, some properly awesome walkers are coming together allowing you to go wild with some Heavy Gear on the tabletop. I have to say that I've not really looked at Heavy Gear properly, at least over the last few years, so it's nice to see it back in a big way in our projects.
The selection as a whole is looking quite frankly spectacular. I think it looks ace when combined with the infantry and smaller vehicles too. You get a real sense of the scale for the Gears when they are on the tabletop. A really fun project.
Vikings by horati0nosebl0wer
Next up, we look at the work of horationoseblower who has been tinkering with a warband of Vikings! They have been summoning the will to do a bit of repainting of their miniatures and bringing a new Viking army to life from something old.
This is clearly SAGA-centric and awesome and offers up a great selection of miniatures for use in Dark Age games. I like that the Warlord for the army gets a proper scenic base, being supported by two mighty warriors.
You've also got a nice bunch of different miniatures representing the different warriors that are under the control of the Warlord. I think that the green looks fantastic and the trimming in the white helps nicely to make the miniatures pop.
You also have these deadly spearmen hiding behind their shields. They look seriously deadly! I also like the work on the faces here as I think they are popping very nicely indeed. You also have some very good beards on display! There is even a cool rune stone to see in the project!
Aztecs by alfonsothetraitor
Lastly, we take a peek at what alfonsothetraitor has been working on and guess what, it isn't Samurai!
These are super colourful and I think they look absolutely amazing once you start diving into all of the details. You've got some amazing blending on the feathers here and there and some detailed work on the wildcat-like outfits that they are wearing. Adding in the jaguar markings is going to the next level and it's great to see.
I love that you get so many different colours to play around with when it comes to these miniatures. When you've got a world of miniatures in grimdark schemes, it's neat to see an army that is so very different.
As you can see, lots of work has gone into those shield designs as well! I can't wait to see what the rest of these miniatures are going to look like once the basing has been done. I don't want to think about the time it took to work on those!
