Mazon Labs Bring Their Experiments To Mantic’s Deadzone
August 1, 2022 by brennon
Mantic Games' Deadzone is expanding with a new set of releases for those wanting to play as the (probably) sinister Mazon Labs in your games. Get skirmishing with scientists and their heavily underpaid soldiers and security guards...oh, and some terrifying creations too.
Mazon Labs - Field Research Team Starter // Deadzone
Leading the way, we have Dr Simmonds and her Field Research Team for Mazon Labs. She has been spotted leading numerous teams of technicians and military personnel through Deadzones in search of something or someone.
This set comes with a resin Dr Simmonds alongside Urbana Blackwing Marines, Urbana Blackwing Rangers, Lab Technicians, Mazon Security Guards and Plague Victims. All of the miniatures bar Simmonds come in PVC.
This is a good starting point for your Deadzone teams and offers up a good way to play as someone a little bit different in your games. I do like the idea of playing as the shadowy organisation that has ulterior motives!
Mazon Labs Booster Packs
As well as the starter option, there are also some Booster Packs and expansion options that you can pick up for use with your Mazon Labs Deadzone team. First up, we have the Reanimation Division Booster.
Mazon Labs - Reanimation Division Booster // Deadzone
This set comes with the resin Cyborg Prime alongside a PVC Cyborg Alpha and five Cyborg Betas. When it comes to exploring Deadzones, it helps to have troops that you can retrofit with new bits and pieces to use again. A dead soldier is just a canvas for these scientists and that means all sorts of strange Cyborgs that aren't exactly great but they do their job.
As well as the Reanimation Division, we also have the Security Patrol that has been watching over Mazons Labs' interests with lethal force.
Mazon Labs - Security Patrol Booster // Deadzone
This comes with two resin TAC Drones which will be blasting enemies apart but also the terrifying Krastavor that no doubt terrifies even the Mazon Labs teams that follow it into the fighting. It speaks to the reach of Mazon Labs that they can call on the aid of alien allies.
Giving oversight over all of this, we have the Senior Management of Mazon Labs. No more smoke breaks for your Mazon Labs soldiers when these folks are around.
Mazon Labs - Senior Management Booster // Deadzone
This set comes with three PVC miniatures for Dr Lukas Koyner, the Neuro Linked Chovar and Guard Commander Graves. So, this offers up an alien ally, a grizzled veteran who has gone through many a conflict and a pretty wild scientist! I think that Lukas Koyner miniature is absolutely fantastic and gets across the "are we the bad guys?" vibe of the Mazon Labs collection.
Asterian Expansion Options
Finally, we also have something for the Asterian collectors out there. This is the Cypher Entanglement Booster.
Asterian - Cypher Entanglement Booster // Deadzone
This set comes with a bunch of awesome specialists and such that you can use with your Deadzone miniatures. All of the miniatures are PVC and they include Cyphers With Noh Rifles, Cypher Wardens, a Cypher With Fission Beamer and a Black Talon. You also have the soaring Sky Razor.
I do like the background behind the Asterians where they have decided the best use of their dwindling race is to watch over things from afar. It makes sense to send in robots to do the fighting for you!
Could you be tempted by the Mazon Labs teams or perhaps the Asterians?

The Mazon Labs look like they would fit nicely into Stargrave
Nice! I might pick some up for Five Parsecs!
Some of the best sci-fi sets from Mantic so far. They are going from strength to strength.
And just a heads-up for the budget conscious: If you bought Star Saga, congratulations, you have everything in the Field Research Team Starter (except the resin Dr. Simmonds) and the whole Senior Mgmt Booster. They are the same PVC models. And the Reanimation Division Booster is the New Eden Revenants Dreadball team, so you may already have that as well!
God bless Mantic for repurposing old models into useful Strike Teams for Deadzone.
If I remember right the two minis in the Senior Management Booster with all the tentacles took a SERIOUS amount of work (cold and hot water baths) to try and straighten things out from the condition we got them in the baggies). The Reanimation Division Booster (or the Dreadball team) might suffer from a little scale creep compared to the other minis (not sure vs the Star Saga minis, but they were definitely bigger than the other “human” sized Dreadball minis that appeared in earlier seasons). But the minis in the Field Research Team Starter are the “stars” in this… Read more »
The TAC drones are all new resin models for 3rd ed Deadzone.
Those look really good.
Resident Evil is the first thing that came to mind with the Mazon Lab figures.
