### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
This week only one question:
- What does your ‘perfect’ gaming leave/holiday/spar time look like? Lets say you are two weeks of work (paid of course) and there are no family obligations to attend. You can plan your two weeks almost on your own.
And now back to the show.
July 29, 2022 at 12:18 pm #1757675My pledge: continue working on my Röknauts!
My Answer:
First I’d like to be able to “switch off” mentally the moment I get home from work. Usually it takes me a week to get down and settled. Then I’d like to overcome this couch potato life with only sitting in front of the PC and getting nothing done besides driving other peoples view counters.
Yes, it’s a brain thing and I should “just do it” but since hobby *always* requires some preparation for me (minimum is putting away the keyboard and setting up the paint station, most of the time more effort is required) “just doing it” doesn’t really work. I really hope that, when I one day have a dedicated hobby room, I can leave everything set up and just go bonkers.
So in my ideal time off I would just sit down and do hobby. No wasting time or anything.
No music today but teachings from our lord and saviour FOAMY!
July 29, 2022 at 5:49 pm #1757790Happy Friday.
My pledge this weekend is to spend some time assembling various recently acquired miniatures, such as the miniatures from the recent folk horrors Kickstarter and a murder of crows from Northumbrian Tin Soldier.

Probably some big messy terrain project where I can have stuff out all over the place with the goal of using that terrain in a big battle at the end of the holiday to round things off nicely, interspersed with some miniature painting and the odd solo game.
I’m lucky that I live on my own and, apart from game nights with friends around I can have a permanent hobby area in my living room so I’m pretty free to do hobby whenever I wish. My main problem is keeping all of the hobby stuff organised.
July 29, 2022 at 8:16 pm #1757797Perfect hobby time/week ?
- Waking up early
- Eating stuff
- doing hobby
- remembering to eat
- doing more hobby
- remembering to eat again
- doing more hobby
- reminding myself I need to sleep
repeat as needed
What usually happens is that I either discover some new game that has that ‘just one more round/thing’ level of addiction, or I just can’t be arsed to do anything as I either have too many or no ideas.
It’s kind of why I liked the bootcamp … because there was only one thing to do : hobby
and you had to do it ’cause you needed the bits for the game on the next day
The downside was that it was a ton of stress so at the end of the day I really needed my ‘me time’.July 31, 2022 at 2:38 pm #1758094What a nice Sunday. No bright evil day star outside, temps are normal. Did some hobby painting.
And then a sudden golden button appears. How nice 🙂
August 1, 2022 at 9:08 am #1758230that’s your second golden button, isn’t it @sundancer ?
@crispin will be soo jealous 😉August 1, 2022 at 9:10 am #1758231Third
First was my affordable housing project. Second was the Speed Paints experiment. And now this! 8)
August 1, 2022 at 10:42 am #1758271you monster 😛
I should be doing some hobby now as I do have the day off today and tomorrow.
August 1, 2022 at 3:26 pm #1758355Here’s the models I’ve been preparing this weekend, the rewards from the Folk Horrors Kickstarter I received about a month ago.
I’m planning on painting them in a slightly different way from how I usually paint. I very rarely do a zenith, I usually just start from grey primer and block in the colours before getting the axgrax out. For these I’ve been watching Marco’s videos on using the Zorn pallet of colours and the Blanchitsu style. Trouble is he uses a lot of oils which I don’t have so I’ll be looking at ways to use acrylics.
I’m not sure how it’s going to go but experimenting can be fun, and maybe I’ll learn something as well.Oh, and congratulations on your Golden Button @sundancer.
August 3, 2022 at 3:41 am #1758690I’m not dead…. I’ve only been sick so no weird music for now.
I got my weekly pledge of one mini for the week done. I will unlikely get one done in the next couple of days but I might surprise myself.
A whole two weeks of hobby!?! *dies happily in the first 5 mins*
Oh, really I’d probably take one whole week of doing nothing but build and paint. I might try and get in games for the full rest of the second. If I couldn’t do that I’d do online gaming (if I had a pc to do so at my disposal).
August 3, 2022 at 8:18 am #1758703That’s a nice looking skellibob there.
I have sobered up from last nights stream and the beers that followed. Sadly “African Queen” was not available on any of my streaming services. Which is a shame. Need to find a DVD then.
August 3, 2022 at 9:10 pm #1758878I’m sure there’s an African Queen somewhere on the X-rated streamingservices 😉
Pirates of Luna City started shipping … not sure when I will get my copy, but it’s cool to know that it is coming.
Scale75 did a painting video for Stormtroopers using the Instant paint series (it’s marked private so no link … ). They do look good, but different. It does however show a bit more on how to use these paints and it kind of makes it obvious they’re not “contrast” paints. The overall effect of those dirty troopers is kind of cool though.
Why did I have to send my airbrush into storage ? I really should check to see if there’s more things that I in hindsight should not have been sent to storage.
I also have to replace my recumbent’s tires and inner tubes … which will be done whenever the heck I have collected the package from the pickup point (silly thing closes at 18:00 …). Replaceming front and rear shouldn’t be too hard. Checking if everything is working (especially the brakes) after not having used it for years may be a challenge. My trike is too big (and expensive) and I really should fix the flippin’ connection that made it e-bike feature useless. I know there’s a replacement wireloom (if that’s the correct term) that might work, but that’s a bit too much of a gamble.
August 4, 2022 at 9:43 am #1758937E-bikes…. I don’t like them. Yes they have their use case as a support motor but in these parts people are driving like maniacs on them without having a proper licence… and then they wonder why they fall flat on their faces or don’t make the stop in time when the lights go red.
I’m offline today. for the most part. Behave people.
I’m going for a walk at the lake and then a nice dinner at the local Indian restaurant.
August 4, 2022 at 8:09 pm #1763961I like mine 😀 going from 0 to 25 KM/h has never been easier.
And I got the brakes to match … (because braking is important)Idiots will find ways to abuse anything .. including cars and regular bikes.
And when the inevitable happens they never ever blame themselves.I always ride super defensively by assuming the other morons on the road aren’t paying attention and probably got their license for free with the breakfast cereals.
Anyways … am in need of happy thoughts now more than ever.
Got my inner tubes and tires today, so in theory I can have my regular recumbent up and running again this weekend.
We’ll have to see how that goes 😀August 5, 2022 at 6:36 pm #1768264 -
