Horizons Of Spirit Island Gives You An Intro To An Epic Board Game
July 25, 2022 by brennon
Greater Than Games have announced a new introductory option for those tempted by Spirit Island. Horizons Of Spirit Island provides you with a slimmed-down version of the very well-regarded board game for those who want an "easy in".
Horizons Of Spirit Island // Greater Than Games
For those not in the know, Spirit Island is a game where you take on the role of powerful spirits that watch over a land far away from prying eyes. However, invaders have landed on your shores and are turning out the local tribes and bringing their warfare, industry and more to the land, harming the natural balance. It's up to you to send these invaders and colonists packing as part of a cooperative experience.
The original Spirit Island is great (even if I don't particularly like the components and art design!) but it can be a little overwhelming. So, Horizons is here to make it easier to dive in.
Horizons Of Spirit Island Components // Greater Than Games
The core mechanics of Spirit Island are all here but there is a new double-sided game board which streamlines the set-up process. You also have punchboard components rather than the various plastic and wooden bits. There are also five new spirits to play as, with each being designed to be perfect for playing Spirit Island for the first time.
This seems like a solid way to get more people into Spirit Island. As I mentioned, it is a fun game with an interesting cooperative puzzle to solve. Playing as the powerful spirits is also very, very fun and you do feel like a destructive force of nature.
Additionally to all this, these new spirits are compatible with the normal Spirit Island so you can use them with that IF you take the next step. You will need the base game and more bits and pieces to dive into the likes of Jagged Earth and such though.
If you've not played Spirit Island before, I would heartily recommend giving this a go!
